Vintage / antique / used jewellery shops

Where is the best place to go and browse through vintage / antique / used jewellery? I am shopping for a necklace, earrings and maybe a bracelet for my June wedding and will probably just have a day to go to one place to find something.

Places I know of:
Brighton - I can't remember the name of the area
Hatton Gardens - I've been but I can only remember one shop selling antique pieces (is it Berganza?)

The Lanes in Brighton?

Burlington arcade London. But £££

Lanes in Brighton

I think there's a jewellery quarter in Birmingham.

If you go to Covent Garden market on a monday they have lots of vintage and antique stalls, many of which have jewellery on, including vintage costume jewellery which may be cheaper. I'd go early before it gets too busy. I think there is also a shop in East Dulwich which does it, if I remember correctly.

Congratulations you must be excited. Berganza is very over priced. I got my engagement ring there and wouldn't do it again. The Lanes in Brighton have that sort of thing but also a bit expensive because it has a reputation.

Look at what's local to you, here in Highgate there is Highgate Jewellers and they have some really lovely stuff, the bloke in there is very nice.. Also not sure how you'd feel about pawn shops but I've seen some quite nice pieces in them for a fraction of the price of Berganza (even on Holloway Road which is a complete dive). I also spotted some quite nice stuff on the Saturday stalls in Camden Passage in Islington, just parallel to Upper Street, Annie's and Cloud Cuckooland also have some lovely vintage costume jewellery too (sadly both shops are going to close down soon - a great loss to Camden Passage.)

Hope that helps.

Alfie's Antiques Market in Marylebone

Hemswell cliff in Lincolnshire!
I used to live in Brighton and the lanes are ok
Hatton garden very bad value for money
Birmingham jewellery quarter good for new jewellery, but not as much second hand or antique
I live a few hours away but always go to Hemswell if buying any Jewellery or a big antiques fair

Portobello road in London on a Saturday

I'd just go to wherevers local. A lot of independent jewellers deal in 2nd hand/vintage as well and you won't be paying the premium of it being a 'known' antiques dealer.

What are you actually looking for? (I do deal in antiques but it tends to be Victorian mourning jewellery which is hardly wedding material Wink)

There are quite a few antique places in Hatton Garden, I can think of at least three on Greville St including this one where I got a ring www.farringdonsjewellery.com/

If you decide to go and have a look around it is quite easy to see which ones are antique as opposed to new so you should be okay.
