Wide leg trousers for a wedding - suggestions please!

I'm off to a wedding next month, DH is best man and I'll be lugging our bf baby around mostly solo, so I want to look good but also be comfy. I'm envisaging some fabulous 30s style navy wide leg trousers with a high waist and a stripey Bardot-style top and some kind of elegant flat or low-heeled shoes. None of which I have already. I'm 5.4, size 10 but top end of that with half a stone of baby weight to lose. Are wide trousers and low heels going to make my arsed look huge? Do you think it's smart enough for a wedding? Any suggestions?

What sort of budget? How formal is the wedding likely to be?

Trousers sounds good but you might be better of with a jumpsuit than separates with carrying your baby about. That will make your top ride up.

That said, 20th Century Foxy is a good place to look. They have a few colours of trews and some lovely tops. Vivien Of Holloway has 40's trousers but not 30's, these are a very nice colour. It's worth looking there for tops too but 20thCF has the nicer blouses, IMO.

Much as wide keg trousers are all over the catwalk this year, I am not sure they suit someone of your petite stature. The models are too least 6 ins taller. However, you can look fabulous. I think a pair of ankle length navy fitted trousers would look better and maybe kitten heeled slingbacks would look elegant. Could you get a jacket to match the trousers in navy? Jazz this up with a very pretty top - easy for feeding. You don't want to look corporate so you could buy a hat and have a clutch bag (as well as the baby bag!) The pill box hats look good if you have longer hair. Separates work better when bf so stick with that idea but I just think wide keg trousers are not that flattering if you are not tall and don't want to wear heels.

Oh thank you both! MrsL I hadn't thought of looking at VoH etc, will take a look. Those trousers are nice although not sure about the buttons.

bojorojo I think you may sadly be right about the wide legs. I'm not the slimmest of thigh and don't want to look stumpy. I'm in that classic rut of having been pregnant or breastfeeding for so long I've lost a bit of my style mojo and I'm not as confident as I was, it's frustrating!

We all get like that!! I didn't mean to upset you! Size 10 on the bust is great so you can afford to have a fabulous top and well cut trousers will make you "lose" the baby weight. That look is more enduring than wide trousers that could be a bit 2016. If you could go for heels, sharp trousers look great. Something like this will also be very reusable elsewhere. Navy and white is always chic.

I'd say, that at 5'4" and a size 10 (even if it;s not the smallest 10) you'll be a lot slimmer than an awful lot of people. I do understand that it's not slim for you but it's not a big size anywhere this side of the 1970's. Really not.

Stumpy would be a hard look to achieve.

Awwwww you're both lovely! Not offended in the least, I've lost well over a stone of baby weight already and I'm pretty realistic, but I'm also suddenly aware that most of my 'normal' summer clothes are now 5/6 years old and designed to fit a slimmer, more confident me without these fabulous breastfeeding boobs!

I think I need to try and find time to dash round the shops and try a few things on - please keep linking if you have any ideas, it's much appreciated! (Although MrsL there's no WAY I'm in a place to pull off those palazzo pants right now )

Im a similar shape when I had a wedding with a small baby, the best thing I did was go into a branch of jigsaw on a quiet weekday, with the baby, and ask the assistant to just bring me suitable clothes. I just sat in the changing room and tried on things, and could lift baby to see how it all worked. I ended up with a long blue silk maxi dress that somehow was very easy to feed in as the top kind of pulled apart. I would never have thought to try it on.
