Ok think I'm going to have to admit defeat and stop using flannels/muslins!!!

My skin is very sore and angry!
I know there's a big debate about not washing face under shower but think I'm gonna have to give it a go

I wash my face in the shower, why wouldn't you?

It's apparently meant to dry out ur skin, according to some beauty "experts" you're supposed to cleanse after shower at a sink and remove cleanser with a flannel/muslin.....well my skin does not like this so I'm sticking my fingers up to it

I use cleanser int the shower with a flannel and muslin.

Jo I have sensitive, reactive skin as you know and mine is fine with water! If I'm showering on the evening I use my cleanser and then wash it off in the shower......I figure it saves on the washing of cloths! (I only use a cloth or flannel once) Just make sure the water isn't too hot. And if you get out and pat dry and then slap on moisturiser, I don't see what the problem is.

Have you read the book that someone mentioned on your other thread? I got it on eBay (sheep that I am) and it's very interesting. I've tweaked my routine just a little and have seen an improvement.

Why would a water from the shower dry out your skin more water from the tap?

If you're not using cleansing stuff for the body on your face you'll be fine. And I'm someone who actually used body cleaning cream on my face.

I would not worry about the experts, they are not in the shower with you.

I was under the impression that it was the higher temperature of the shower that was bad for your skin. I stopped doing this for about a month then decided it was too much hassle/mess to wash my face separately in our tiny poxy sink so now i just turn the temperature down and wash it in the shower.
I only use flannels if i'm wearing makeup that needs a bit of help coming off

I have seen that recommendation too and decided to ignore it, as too much hassle! (also impossible to not get your face wet in the shower). I use Cetaphil cleanser in the shower in the morning, and at night I double cleanse using a flannel.

Which cleanser are you using with the flannel? It might be that rather than the flannel - the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser made my skin terrible but it's fine with other more gentle ones.

It could be the cleanser. I have stopped using Liz Earle cleanse and polish, and use Boots traditional cold cream (about £2.50 for a massive jar). It's just as good as Eve Lom in my opinion which I used to buy at great expense (also contains mineral oil).

Just to clarify - Liz Earle is mineral oil free and Eve Lom/ Cold Cream contains mineral oil.

I always wash my face in the shower in the mornings, far too much of a palaver to wash face separately after, I just don't have the time.
But in the evenings when I generally don't have a shower I use a cloth otherwise my balm cleanser wouldn't wash off properly.
I have very sensitive skin which is happy with Clinique take the day off balm. I've been trying avene gentle cleanser in the mornings which is fine, my skin hates cetaphil though.
My skin is driest if I just swipe it in the morning with a wet warm flannel.
I'm still trying to find the perfect moisturiser. The one that suits me best at the moment has mineral oil in it which is frowned by some, but my skin likes it a lot and stays calm.

What book coconuts?? And tell me how have u tweaked ur routine what are u using??
It's not my cleanser I've used it years (hated Liz Earle too) it's defo the cloths makin my skin react! I was doing it morn and night so I think it was too much for me! I might just use cloth when not havin shower as I can't get on with splashing face from sink to rinse I flood the bathroom and myself!!

I guess if you've used the same cleanser for years without a cloth and your skin was fine then it would make sense to stick to your previous routine.

I have rosacea which is flaring a bit at the moment and feel the same - have just bought a bamboo face cloth from Superdrug which is much softer and so far doesn't seem to aggravate it as much as muslins or flannels. Might be worth a try.

I double cleanse at night, and just a quick swipe of micellar in the morning if I am a bit oily.

My skin has never been as bad as it was when I started to faff around with flannels etc, less is more, back to my nice skin pre looking at all these skin care blogs.

I only use a cloth at night, just wash my face in the shower in the morning! But then I like my showers quite cool.

What do you wash them in? You haven't used a different detergent/fabric softener at all?

I went to a tropic party and they had amazing bamboo cloths. SO soft!

I love my Konjac sponge too
