Help - Home hairdresser, good at colouring but not cutting! What would you do?

I have had a lady come to my house for a couple of years now to cut & colour my hair as I couldn't afford salon prices.
I am happy with the colour she does & costs much less than the salon so I can get roots etc done more often.

The cut however is awful. Last time I was left looking like a lego person! She never quite gets what I'm asking for & I end up feeling annoyed at how she has cut it.
I am trying to grow it so only ever really need a trim but she seems to take it too far & now it's shapeless and uneven.

Last year I had it cut at a salon before my holiday as she wasn't available. The cut was really good. I just want to go back there for the cut & just have the colour done at home.
How do I tell the home hairdresser this without offending her? I feel like at the moment I'm just sticking with her so as not to offend her but as a result I'm unhappy!

Just say you've decided to grow you hair so won't be having it cut for a while. Then just don't contact her for an appointment.

Thanks CoCo, I did think that but would still like her to do the colour so she's going to be able to see if I've had it cut elsewhere.
I'm not very assertive so find this kind of thing awkward.

Just say you're growing your hair.

Or you could be a bit assertive and a bit of a white lie and say, I really want X style of cut but I'm not sure if that's something you think you could do?? I'd like to get it cut elsewhere if you don't mind?

Praise her to the hilt re her colour skills though.

The alternative is to leave her completely (which is what may happen) and just blank her (but heard it's rude to leave hairdresser without explanation).

Can you tell her that you wanted an immediate haircut one day and dropped in at a salon (knowing she wouldn't be free at such short notice of course) and the haircut was just perfect so you're going to stick with that hairdresser for cuts but of course you absolutely love the way she does your colour so you'd really like to stick with her for that. It's still good business for her and you are acknowledging her colouring skills so I can't think she'd be too offended.

Or just tell a whopper and say that a family member is training as a hairdresser and you'd like to support her in allowing her to cut your hair

I'd do what Favouritethings suggested. Although you will have to wear dark-glasses and a false moustache when you go to the salon just in case the other hairdresser walks past.

Don't say anything about cut. Just book her for colour. Get the colour done first so it's never freshly cut when she's colouring it. She won't ask you about it. It's awkward for her too.
