Katymac · 10/01/2007 14:26

My brother is getting married

I get 5 days in Cannes

I need a drop dead gorgeous outfit

I am about a size 14 - big boobs, big hips - narrow waist but very short waisted - long slim legs & I'm 38

I used to be a size 22 so I really need help

I like colour (blocks of colour - rather than patterns) - not pastels

I have dark brown hair, hazel eyes and sallow skin

Please help

i would go for a nice soft bit floatyish dress.

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:29

something like this

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:31

still not exactly what i mean, still looking

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:33

Katymac · 10/01/2007 14:34

this is nice

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:36

like this one aswell

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 14:40

No no, not floaty, far too unstuctured and clings like a bastard on the bum.

Monsoon have annoyingly stopped doing them, but they have done several dresses in this shape, which are ideal for hourglasses as they really emphasise small waists and make curves look voluptuous rather than hefty.
Wear with heels to make the most of good legs.

They came in bright red, teal, the black emroidered one I linked to above, white with black polka dots, black lace, a rather lovely black silk print, stripes - all sorts in fact. Searching Ebay for the style names - Camille , Oriane or Yasuko gives you an idea.

Also try Coast - they have some seriously fab stuff, esp for a non-UK wedding, but their website is genuinely impossible to link to.

Katymac · 10/01/2007 14:41

this is the worng colour

Seriously, I would avoid empire line. You have a tiny waist - use it!

I think a trying-on session in Monsson would pay dividends.

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:45

badger the black one is exactly what i pictured in my head but couldnt find a picture off, is it not floatyish then??

Katymac · 10/01/2007 14:48

Cn't wear black - it's a wedding & my mum is old fashioned

The fabric may be floaty but it's the cut that matters - you can see how unstructured the Principles one is by the way it hangs sacklike on the hanger...
a 'floaty dress' too often means bias cut which is a disaster for pearshapes like me, and will def not make the most of a slim waist as it hangs like a sack from bust to hip...

Katy, any colour you like, it was the shape I was trying to illustrate. Bet you look great in teal.

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:00

This is worth a bash - love the colour

Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:06

I thought that would make me look very chesty

OP posts:
Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:07

bit too Minnie Mouse?

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:08

hmm, maybe - M&S are renowned for very non-representative website pics though, so it might be less revealing IRL.

Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:09

this?

OP posts:
Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:09

ice blus is so not me

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:09

actually I love that polka dot one - very french riviera! add some big shades and you're good to go.

Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:14

like this - it's a bit fussy tho'

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:14

definitely not the ice blue satin

the cream one is nice though - I really love the little jacket (though the sleeves may not be a flattering length unless you're more toned than me)

Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:17

shame it's out of stock

Not toned at all - have bingo wings

I have a dress maker so an idea is all I need (& a colour & a material)

OP posts:
Katymac · 10/01/2007 15:19

It must have shoulder straps I wear industrial bras.....

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 15:23

if you have a dressmaker go and pick her brains!

bet she has a lot of good ideas...
