Got a strapless bustier, low back but not fitted style dress - empire line?

Shoulder or elbow length veil - what do you think?

OP posts:
frumpygrumpy · 10/01/2007 14:18

I'm going for elbow. I've never been a fan of shoulder length veils, it breaks up the line of everything else.

frumpygrumpy · 10/01/2007 14:18

is this the link

JackieNo · 10/01/2007 14:18

I tend to agree with frumpygrumpy.

frumpygrumpy · 10/01/2007 14:19

lovely dress btw

AnguaVonUberwald · 10/01/2007 14:19

I'm going for Elbow as well - amkes a nice line like Frumpygrumpy said. My dress is also strapless - A line.

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 14:21

elbow length and not too full I think

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:21

i would go with elbow lenght as well or maybe a little longer, dont like shoulder length ones bit hit n miss for my liking.

MrsBadger · 10/01/2007 14:24

oh, would say no longer than elbow length else it starts obscuring your waist. 'Waltz' ie calf-length veils are a disaster as they make your arse look huge.

(I went without in the end - my dress had an organza overlay thing already and when I tried one on my sister said I looked like I'd lost a fight with a net curtain...)

frumpygrumpy · 10/01/2007 14:26

Mrs Badger!! Sorry to hi-jack but you recommended a gorgeous tea set to me before Christmas. I wanted to tell you that it was (a) absolutely gorgeous when it arrived and (b) reduced to £2 from £15! Thank you!

BuffysMum · 10/01/2007 14:30

good a thought elbow length too, many thanks, more advice please.....ok I'm only a size 8 but sadly short so I want a veil etc to give be a bit more height as dp is v tall but will take on not too full.

The correct colour match is def cappuccino but if it saves me £50 do you think a near enough match of one of the golds would be okay?

Any more advice greatly welcome - especially walking in 3 inch heels!

Do you really want a veil? What about a nice hair thingy?

BuffysMum · 10/01/2007 14:35

I have long red hair and never wear it up and tbh hones can't as it's thick, soft, heavy and will just fall out. Though tiara type thing with 2 layer veil? Not veil on face though!

wurlywurly · 10/01/2007 14:41

buffys mum, you have hair like mine, but i still managed to wear it up for my wedding and glad i did it was one of the hottest days of the year. wore my hair up in french pleat with veil and tiara.

BuffysMum · 10/01/2007 14:44

we did a french pleat but it's just not me plus I have a fringe, hair will def be 80% of it down with perhaps a bit up at the front. In March I'm sure it'll be cold enough to appreciate the extra warmth!

re shoes -

  1. get an old pair of sports socks
  2. cut a slit in each heel
  3. put on wedding shoes
  4. put on cut socks over the top with heels poking through slits
  5. wear them round the house - start off with half an hour a day and work up.

Don't skip the socks else you will spill food / beer / milk on them.

(NB glad the teaset was a good find frumpygrumpy - wish I'd bought about 5 myself to give as presents...)

taylormama · 10/01/2007 14:54

definitely the longer veil - you will look gorgeous .... i went for full length veil (wanted to be princess so badly even tho' i was pushing 30 )

BuffysMum · 10/01/2007 15:04

I'm mid-thirties! Anyway am now thinking as I'm not getting married in ivory/white will the veil make me loo more bridal rather as if I were a bridesmaid? Perhaps I should have just gone for a suit! I am getting married in church tho!
