Just as the title says really - which of these two rings do you prefer?

Not actually getting engaged yet. I just can't decide between which style of ring I'd like when I do...

and where is a good place to get a ring? Guessing Ernest Jones isn't the best?

I'm not a controlling weirdo I swear. Grin

God some of you are bloody rude. OP has asked which one people prefer - why do people feel
the need to take the time to post "neither" or be even more snarky? You can choose not to post at all, you know Hmm

OP I think the second is nicer but I would look around as PP said. If you don't mind second hand jewellery you can get some really lovely rings for a great price.

SoupDragon · 12/04/2016 20:03

I posted neither because the OP asked which ring we preferred. My honest answer was neither.

The OP is not actually engaged so not choosing an actual engagement ring just musing about style.

Sparklycat · 12/04/2016 20:09

Neither but first if I had to.

Out of the two I prefer the style of the second one. But I second the poster who said to go to an auction house or go vintage. All my rings are vintage apart from a basic wedding ring I have to wear when doing things with the dc. They have a much more unique look to them and are often much better value for money. With white gold I think it is either mixed with silver or platinum, the cheaper rings will be mixed with silver and tarnish. I got lucky with my vintage eternity band as it is apparently mixed with platinum and still looks the same as it did five years ago let's forget about the diamonds that keep falling out

Kennington · 12/04/2016 20:12

Avoid white gold if you can as its sheen is rhodium playing so will need to be replated

Ludways · 12/04/2016 20:15

Neither but then I suspect you wouldn't like my engagement ring either, we just have different tastes, lol

VagueIdeas · 12/04/2016 21:00

Platinum is rhodium plated too. Although having said that I haven't had mine replated in six years because it just looks duller without the plating, it's still silver coloured.

Thank you for your replies - I actually really appreciate it.

I have no knowledge on material and quality etc but after reading your comments I will definitely go to Hatton Garden/Birmingham jewellery district for a better quality ring when the time comes!

Second one by a mile, 1st one is very gaudy.
