Inspired by the Room 101 thread of fugliness...

Name one thing that is the most stylish single thing you can do or wear.

Mine: short manicured nails with clear polish.

A good leather handbag

Forgetmenotblue · 09/04/2016 12:37

Yes that's a good one.

I am also a sucker for a fountain pen and lovely handwriting, but I may be stretching S&B there, a bit.

I think having a good haircut and neat eyebrows/nails.

Also not being overweight - easier for clothes to hang nicely and you can get away with cheaper stuff.

Floisme · 09/04/2016 12:41

My specs.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2016 12:42

Biker jacket
Mascara
Blusher

Forgetmenotblue · 09/04/2016 12:46

I'd love to do biker jacket, Remus, but I am large of nork, and can't seem to pull it off.

Also where to buy?

I'm a 34E/F nowadays but I really like my bikers. They nip the waist in and cover boobs without swamping them. Never fasten, and don't buy too big.

Mine are from Oasis and Mint Velvet - the Oasis ones were cheaper but are better quality.

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 09/04/2016 12:55

I came here to say mascara and blusher too Remus.

Also, good underwear: i.e. well fitting and not falling apart. It makes your clothes hang better, makes you feel better and you never know who might see it.

Forgetmenotblue · 09/04/2016 12:55

Thanks I'll have a look.

Floisme · 09/04/2016 12:58

Agree with Orange about good underwear. The older I get, the more I spend on it,

Individuality

Posture

Engagement with the world.

Gruach · 09/04/2016 14:11

Or - since my previous post was annoying even to me:

Unswervingly seeking out the best (not necessarily most expensive) you can afford or find.

Confounding expectations.

Being adventurous and prepared to make mistakes.

Forgetmenotblue · 09/04/2016 17:05

gruach I over your first post...quite inspiring and definitely achievable.

A very good pair of jeans.
Decent quality white t-shirt, vest and shirt - kept very white.
Slightly well-worn Converse.
A vintage suede jacket.
A decent black blazer.
A black dress that suits you and can be adapted for different occasions.
Ballet pumps.
Soft leather loafers.

Most of all, wearing what you're comfortable in. I've learned that the expensive hard way.

niminypiminy · 09/04/2016 17:22

I agree Gruach posture is really important

My own one is not being coy about my age. I'm 54 and and I don't want to hide it or try to make people think I'm younger or fish for 'but you don't look it' type remarks. Being the age I am with grace and insouciance is what I aspire to.

Yes!
I found the perfect dress in Asda Grin - knew it when I bought it and bought 4 Grin.
Wear to work, evening events, parties etc, always feel confident and like I am wearing the most appropriate thing. Lots of compliments, from people ranging form14 year old girls to 99 year old granny. Not that I am out for compliments, but would be just perfect on anyone.
It has actually now finally convinced me to throw out all the stuff that I have hoarded but does not look good on me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2016 18:03

I'm still looking for my perfect black dress. I thought I'd found it in a VW one, but it's too cleavagey and also a bit clingy now I've put a bit of weight on.

McNally · 09/04/2016 18:14

Styled hair. Not a 'do, but properly blow dried. Most days I rough dry my hair but I feel more polished when I make more of an effort.

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 09/04/2016 18:16

Remus - reminds me of the West Wing episode 'The black Vera Wang'
(or do you mean Vivienne Westwood')

oldlaundbooth · 09/04/2016 18:20

Any chance of a pic, MrsGuy ?

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 09/04/2016 18:22

Don't want to out myself because I wear it everywhere, and someone will recognise me Grin

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 09/04/2016 18:29

It has long sleeves, round neck, crepey kinda material (non-iron) just above knee level (I am average height)
Probably cost about £18, looks more expensive.
I have one just below knee level in similar material but short sleeves from Tesco.
(Livin' it large, me Grin)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2016 18:38

Westwood - no idea what West Wing is though, sorry!
