Ideas please for a hat and shoes to go with a dress

Ok so Dh and I have been invited to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot this year (private box I think rather than one of the enclosures). I have this dress which I wore to a wedding a few weeks ago but I don't have a hat. I am fairly short (5'3") so don't want anything huge. I don't really do hats so if anyone has any good suggestions I will be eternally grateful!

I have chin length hair and it is the plum coloured dress.

That's a gorgeous dress! I like the idea of a pillbox hat.

I'd go for a silver grey or champagne coloured hat, as you probably will not be able to match the dress colour.

I think you need a little width to contrast with the narrow shape of the frock, so something like the Hobbs "Clare" in silver grey at £59.

Debenhams have got a huge selection and a sale on ATM, I love the J by Jasper Conran collection and the dipped crown saucer in grey reduced to £31:50 would be lovely.

I would avoid flowers, floppy brims, and keep to quite simple stylish shapes to let the dress be the focus.
