Shoes that enable me to walk to the shops in my lunch hour ........

If I’m buying flat shoes, then I just love Clarks – I get so many compliments when I wear them, generally from people who wouldn’t be seen dead in a Clarks shop ……. I wear heels in the office, but need something flat/fairly supportive so that I can walk into town in my lunch hour. Winter is quite easy, as I’m always wearing boots, but spring is a bit tricky, and I often find that ballet flats just aren’t supportive enough. I realise that 'fashion' and 'being able to walk' don't always go together, but I do my best to find acceptable lunch hour shoes.

I bought these yesterday, they look great with black opaque tights if I’m wearing a dress, and they actually look quite good when worn with bare feet and my black work trousers (just got back from hols, so my feet are quite tanned).

Opinions please! Don’t be afraid to tell me I’ve gone mad!

They look way too flat to be supportive , you need about a half inch heel and a decent sole. It does mention a hidden wedge. Hopefully not so high as to produce the bum out duck waddle. They look OK.

My DD wanted those as school shoes

I've given up on acceptable lunch hour shoes (in my case they have to work for long commute on train and running between meetings) and have a pair of plimsolls that are at least light to carry when my heels go back on. So watching this with interest.

Shoes with heels - the work of the devil! Invented by men for their titillation so our hips wiggle when we walk - and we can't run away fast. Bin 'em all!

If my working day involved trains, I would be wearing trainers/skechers, I'd feel no shame in doing that! Many of my colleagues walk into town quite happily in high heels, but I know I'd break my ankles/neck ..... Too many cobbles and uneven pavements!

I have those in a burgundy/snakeskin colour (see pic) from last year and often get complimented on them! I I cannot walk in completely flat shoes but the hidden wedge means these are ok (although I have added some arch supports), so would be ok for lunch-time excursions I should think. I liked the black too but couldn't justify getting both colours and really loved the burgundy .

I think they are really lovely.

I like the look of them although they still look pretty flat. Intrigued by the hidden wedge.

Is the wedge like those hidden lifts that Tom Cruise is alleged to be fond of in his shoes.

They arent for me as i cant wear the pointy types. I've given up trying to look good and just wear trainers for walking to and from work and lunch walking.

I think the Clarks Hamble Oak brogues are just wonderful, I have 4 pairs and wear one of those for work, I do a lot of walking and they're so comfortable. In the spring they bring out lighter colours, I have an ivory pair that are ace.

I really like the burgundy ones. The black ones are a bit meh.

However I would never consider wearing heels or anything else uncomfortable to work.

Maybe not wildly stylish, but I find that the combination of slightly chunkier heel and a strap makes them significantly more comfortable and easy to walk in than court shoes of the same height.

Doob I'd end up in A&E if I attempted to negotiate pavements and cobbles in those!
