Flat shoes to wear with skinny jeans

At mid-30s following years of cycling my previously chicken drumstick legs are actually pretty decent and I often wear skinny jeans either with ankle boots or knee highs for dress down or just days off.

Now it's getting a bit warmer I'd love a semi-smart look with flats (or near flats), but as I am 5' with feet like a duck (narrow heel, wide front and small shoes size - duck), ballet flats just look all wrong. Trainers work just fine, but are not smart.

What do other MNetters wear for spring / summer with skinny jeans? Looking for inspiration!

I've got it into my head that I would like some low sling backs for this very purpose. But I haven't yet found any that aren't too 'mum'.

SouthDownsSunshine · 06/04/2016 07:34

TOMS. Love them!

FinallyHere · 06/04/2016 09:00

Ohh, southdowns I loved the look of Toms, thank you.

They are sadly not for me, they come in medium width only. Sigh.

RaisinGirls · 06/04/2016 09:17

Try looking at Vans. Toms are too narrow for me but Vans work well

FinallyHere · 06/04/2016 11:41

Thank you Raisin, ill have a look at those. Good to know, thank you

Sorry I disappeared!

I thought about Converse for casual, although Vans look like they might be a better option.

I often wear with a fairly smart jacket when it's boots weather and can't seem to find a shoe that would work with that at all. Brogues just look all wrong on me.

Will investigate Vans at the weekend though Smile

Thanks for this thread - reading with interest.

I wear Converse but I am a bit bored with them

PerpetualStudent · 09/04/2016 02:07

Would pointy ballet flats do? I'm mostly in the converse/vans camp. On a related subject, I always fold up the bottom of my skinnies when in flats, and go for a trainer sock or bare feet - I feel like there's something tragic in the unceremonious end of a skinny jean and a flash of bobbly ankle sock, whereas neat fold-ups and a cheeky bit of ankle look like more of a conscious style decision... Am I right in this?

gooru · 09/04/2016 02:30

Loafers are the way forward!

OuchLegoHurts · 09/04/2016 09:50

Roll up the bottom of your jeans and wear converse...love that look especially with a blazer

Narp · 09/04/2016 09:53

Perpetual

On yes, I agree

No matter what Grazia tries to tell you, socks look stupid

MissTurnstiles · 09/04/2016 09:54

Boden do nice flat sling backs. Stylish as long as you avoid the 'fun' prints. I got a lovely silver pair a few years ago.

Or how about slim loafers or a slim brogue? Try Russell and Bromley.

Narp · 09/04/2016 09:55

My problem with slingback a and ballet flats is they feel insecure and sometimes there's toe cleavage. Ew.

Narp · 09/04/2016 09:59

Forgot. I have a pair of DMs this shape but mine are canvas with a pasterl floral pattern. I always get compliments when I wear them. I wear them less than I would, because I am not allowed jeans at work
