Talk to me about skinny jeans - I'm in a rut!

So, back when I was young and skinny, I wore Topshop Baxters or Cheap Mondays. Switched to Topshop Leigh jeans in my late 20s.

Now in my early 30s I feel like I want something bit nicer, that doesn't lose shape as easily. Happy to spend more than Topshop prices but not hundreds a pair. I'm 5'7", size 12, with slimish thighs but a post-baby stomach that has never quite shifted Sad

My normal casual look is jeans, Converse, shirt/jumper, leather jacket - deeply unexciting but I'm happy enough with it. I'd just like some nicer bits to refresh it a bit!

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to start?

You could do worse than Gap high waist skinnies.

I think the full price is about £50, but there's usually a promotion running (there were discounts the last two times I bought stuff there) and they do a jeans loyalty card too (buy four, get the fifth pair free).

J brand are great. Normally £200 a pair but currently in TK Maxx online for £50 ish.

Love Oasis jeans. I have 4 pairs of the Eva as they are the best fit jeans I've ever tried on. Obviously each person prefers a different fit for their shape, but Oasis are worth a try.

Have you tried top shop jamies? If you like top shop jeans they are possibly a touch more forgiving in the tummy.

I have a mixture of j brand, Paige, current Elliott, 2nd day and frame on the go that I can immediately think of, but actually wear jamies the most.

For high street I also quite like whistles jeans as they tend to do interesting colours e.g. I have a nice waxed navy pair.

Jonis are good and high waisted but tight!

eurochick · 29/03/2016 22:27

I like Gap high waisted skinnies and Oasis cherries. I'm a similar size and shape to you I think.

I've

I've just had some French connection ones. Really comfy though they were more than I'd usually pay.

I had some great quality jeans from Jaeger in the sale. Unfortunately I grew too fat for them so just sold on eBay for about £15.

musicmum75 · 29/03/2016 22:35

I also used to live in my Baxters (and actually still do) but I recently discovered All Saints skinnies and I am in love. They are pricier at around £70 but not ridiculously expensive and very good quality.

ElectraAzalea · 29/03/2016 22:37

I also like Topshop Jamie's, high waisted so better after having DC!

Nettletheelf · 29/03/2016 23:11

Are you sold on skinny jeans? I prefer girlfriend jeans for spring and summer. Gap's are good.

Scooterloo · 29/03/2016 23:43

I'm moving to a straight leg jean, feel like my skinnies are now a uniform and I hate a uniform.

But, can't go wrong with M&S, IMHO.

looki · 30/03/2016 00:36

I switched from TopShop Leigh to Jamie jeans and feel so much better wearing them. The waist is higher, the denim is thicker and they make me look slimmer, the Leigh jeans were very unforgiving.

megletthesecond · 30/03/2016 01:08

yy nettle. I prefer Girlfriend jeans from warm May to mid sept. Skinnies just don't feel 'summer' to me.

soundsystem · 30/03/2016 08:12

Ooh, some really good ideas, thanks all. I'll have a look!

Will definitely try the Jamie's from topshop and have a look at girlfriend jeans.

Bouncey great tip for j-brand/TKmaxx, thanks. I've heard really good things about them but was put off by the price. Well get a pair and see how I go!
