I bought a hand cream from john lewis yesterday, it was a burts bees and cost 10pounds, on opening i was knocked sick by the smell (dh would not come anywhere near me) will I be able to exchange it, I almost bought the philosphy one and now wished I had it is such a waste of money if I don't take it back but will they allow me to change it?

Well, if you don't like it and haven't used it - they are duty bound to give you your money back or replace it aren't they?!?! Statutory rights and all that?

Working as a beauty therapist - if any of my clients want to bring back products they've bought - they're allowed to return them unused.

if it's unused they will probably allow an exchange but not your money back

unfortunately its opened (has a seal on it) in order to try it i had to break the seal)

Take it back anyway - try your luck. (you could always say you had an allergic reaction to it.) Then they'll def let you change it. (naughty!!!)

well now that you mention it, a finger on my left hand has tiny blisters on it and is very itchy (not sure whether its the hand cream tho) twas my own fault was in the mood to buy and didn't want to leave the shops with nothing

Well there you go - allergic reaction!!!!

I took a used foundation back once because it made my face go bright red - got an exchange easy peasy!!

Anything by OPI or Jessica.

I had a reaction to a Boots No 7 face cream years ago (never bothered to take it back) but a while later was buying a lipstick or something from them and the assistant tried to interest me in their skincare stuff and I mentioned what had happened before - she said I should have brought it back.

Good luck!

Re hand creams - I love the Guerlain one - more than 10 pounds though.

i reckon i have tried every hand cream on the market. now that i get through buckets of it i use atrixo - not fancy but really effective. body shop hemp handcream is brilliantly heavy duty as well.

Budababe · 06/01/2007 11:30

Not sure how much in UK as I live in Budpest and I bought it here! Sorry!

Stautory rights only apply to faulty goods etc. If you have opened something (which therefore means the shop cannot resell it) and simply don't like it, you have no rights. It is down to the goodwill of the shop.

Be honest and try and exchange it. I know someone who got an exchange for nappy wipes that she disliked the smell of.
