What colour top with brown trousers?

OK the good news is I have lost enough weight to fit back into a very nice pair of Boden wide-leg brown wool trousers that have been languishing in the back of the wardrobe. But I don't seem to have a top that goes with them for some reason. I do have a plain brown v-neck jumper but when I tried them on the effect was a bit, um, brown. Can anyone suggest a better colour? I have bright red hair btw so red is out.
I'm trying to put together a work wardrobe without spending very much just in case I actually get the job I've got an interview for next week. Although if I can't even figure out which tops to wear with my trousers I might not be the dynamic, decisive person they're looking for...

cream would be lovely with red hair and brown trousers

warm beige

turquoise can be interesting, and I bet green would suit you

Pinkchampagne · 05/01/2007 23:02

I have a couple of pairs of brown trosers & wear either beige, khaki, green or white/cream.

MrsBadger · 05/01/2007 23:03

I wear lots of brown - I'm not actually redheaded but am more than a little ginger. Red can work really well so long as it's a warm red (ie not too blue) - look at lipstick colours that suit you.

Try
white
cream
tan
turquoise
coral
orange
red
green

cece · 05/01/2007 23:05

I wear a lot of pink with brown

colditz · 05/01/2007 23:09

Mmm, dusky pink with subtle gold makeup.

Spidermama · 05/01/2007 23:15

Cream.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Am liking the sound of cream and turquoise. Haven't worn light colours for years because of all the filthy children I've got. I seem to remember when I last had an office job when DD1 was small I used to put my suit on and then put my dressing-gown back over the top until the moment I was actually leaving the house.

green or pink. Shades chosen wisely for red hair.

SilentTerror · 06/01/2007 11:37

I think teal colours look great and very now,IYSWIM. Cream always classic, particularly with a brown and ceam necklace to link the colours. There are some fab wrap tops around in the sales, either fixed wrap or proper wrap,in various patterns with brown, these would look good too.Used to wear pink with brown alot, but on me looks a bit dated now.(stress on ME,my opinion only!)

jalopy · 06/01/2007 18:20

You saying I'm dated, silentterror?

Not very silent, are you.

Pinkchampagne · 07/01/2007 20:22

I have just bought a cream & gold camisole top, which goes perfectly with my brown trousers. I wore this outfit last night!

No Pointydog, stressed just me! Think it depends on the shade of pink too.Pastel pink looks awful on me,which is what I meant! Sorry for any offence.

pointydog · 07/01/2007 20:51

None taken, silent! I'm just amusing myself.

RosaLuxembourg · 07/01/2007 23:24

Discovered a turquoise jumper in the back of a drawer which I had, ahem, grown out of a while back. Looks great with the trousers. Thanks guys. Am having quite a good time rediscovering my 'thin clothes'.
