Boden have now got the rest of their stock on sale online. This'll have me pigeonholed now, must be about the fifth or sixth time I've ever posted on MN, and my third post concerning the aforementioned B-word...!

Iknow !! Saw it at 10 o'clock and got a few more things! I am always on the Boden threads too, how sad is that ?

StayAtHomeMummy · 05/01/2007 16:17

Thanks so much for the tip, the washed velvet coat I was after has come into the sale now, so have ordered it. Couldn't decide whether to get the brocade or play safe and go for brown. Played safe - now am wondering if I did the right thing!

Whizzz · 05/01/2007 16:23

OMG - even I am considering buying !!

StayAtHomeMummy · 05/01/2007 16:29

Oh, the stress of it all!!! Have ordered the brocade separately! Only had it in an 8 though, odered it anyway, but have ordered the brown in a 10, so we'll see. Because I'm pear shaped, with no shoulders to speak of, I can usually get away with an 8 in shorter items, so if will depend how generously it's cut. Just my luck will be if the 8 fits best but the brown sells out in the 8 in the meantime.

AuldAlliance · 05/01/2007 16:35

I've gone for the wild "order different sizes and bank on sending lots of it back" strategy. Saves the stress of worrying that things will sell out while I try them on in one size and then find I need a different one. Obv would be a bit pricy if it was footwear, but have stuck to textiles (velvet trousers in particular, hope they're OK as have been hankering after them after seeing them on various threads here). How sad have I become, that I get so worked up about this!

OP posts:
Whizzz · 05/01/2007 16:47

Well I went for 2 (!) long stripey cardis in diff colours & some dark brown moleskin jeans.

OMG I am turning Boden !

Twinkie1 · 05/01/2007 16:48

Well thats a coupe of hundred quid I just shelled out that I didn't anticipate spending today - cause I am broke and being good!!

SilentTerror · 05/01/2007 16:49

Which velvet ones,Auld? I have the slate from this year, and every colour from last years sale! Come up big though,I have them in 8, even though no way am I an 8!
Can't decide myself about coat, not sure about it being double breasted IYSWIM?

marymillington · 05/01/2007 16:50

am toying with buying something from the ladieswear for the first time in ages.....one of their wrap dresses, and a denim skirt. will i regret it? is it all a bit mummyish?

StayAtHomeMummy · 05/01/2007 16:59

It's funny stuff, Mary. I think it looks really cute in your twenties/thirties, but now I've hit 40 I can look a bit Miss Marple in some of it! So you have to pick and choose - a bit mummyish maybe, but can be very yummy mummy

StayAtHomeMummy · 05/01/2007 17:01

Well, the washed velvet in the brocade colourway has completely sold out, so I feel justified in spending the extra £4 to order it separately. Just ahve to wait and wonder now.

How sad am I, keeping an eye on it after I've ordered it anyway...?

AuldAlliance · 05/01/2007 17:10

The slate ones, ST. Damn, didn't think in a million years I'd need to order an 8!! Grrr, all that cunning planning probably gone to waste, especially as have finally lost baby bulge and 10 may be too big from what you say.
Some of it is seriously frumpy (should I say mummy?!), but if you pick and choose I find the quality great and some of the styles really flattering.

Crotchety · 05/01/2007 17:47

Anyone know how big/small Boden sizes come up? Don't know which size to go for really and not sure I can be bothered to order two different ones!

Pinkchampagne · 05/01/2007 17:47

I find they come up big!

JustIvor · 05/01/2007 17:58

I was going to start a new thread but I'll post here instead if that's okay. Has anyone got the Long Printed Cord Skirt in a 12? If so, would you be willing to measure the waist for me, please? TIA.

Whizzz · 05/01/2007 17:59

oh well, I'll see when my stuff arrives...

JustIvor · 05/01/2007 18:01

I find that the sizes vary enormously. Often a 12 is almost perfect on me but sometimes it is way too small. If I order a 14 however, I have inches of garment to spare around the waist more often than not. Sigh.

SilentTerror · 05/01/2007 18:04

I find the 'slouchy' style trousers come up large,so buy a size smaller. Some of the others are small though, particular the stretch bootleg ones.Skirts are about average on me,tops the same, but I have gone up a size in the woollen cardigans, because some of these seem small!Def a try it and see.
Agree, some of things are frumpy and can age you if in mid thirties onwards,I think.I find the dresses too long so get them shortened, but have to say the quality of the wrap dresses is superb.Think some of the skirts and trousers are frumpy too.And those boucle cardigans they do every year.Have got those stone embellished tops in purple and sea, they look ok.And the cord jackets jazz up jeans !

LaDiDaDi · 05/01/2007 23:53

Ok ladies, I have just placed my first ever Boden order! I am a proper mummy now . I have ordered a top and a skirt, will have to see if they look ok in rl and if they fit. I'm quite excited!

Crotchety · 06/01/2007 10:02

Me too LaDiDaDi! I feel Yumminess descending upon me! Of course the stuff will be too small and I'll have to send it back but at last I shall own velvet-trimmed cardigans...It'll be a gilet next if I'm not careful.

marymillington · 06/01/2007 10:08

ok, boen afficionados, i'm 37, size 14-16 (up the duff atm but birth imminent)

will i look twice my age and size in this in the patterned version.

will wear with magic pants and heeled boots or maybe trousers.

or is it mumsytastic?

JustIvor · 06/01/2007 11:00

Go for it!

SilentTerror · 06/01/2007 11:21

Mary,I've got the red star version, had it shortened to knee length(I am only 5 ft 2) and wear it with boots,or over jeans.Don't think it looks mumsy at all, especially over jeans/trousers,with a long trendy necklace.I have loads of wrap dresses, from Topshop,French connection and Boden, and they are great to wear in this way.Do think the Boden ones are a frumpy length if you are small though, def have them shortened. Oh, tie at the front too,it breaks up any tummy,IYSWIM. hth!

carriepops · 09/01/2007 13:23

Just bought the velvet ballet pumps and a pin tuck shirt. Hope they're nice!

StayAtHomeMummy · 10/01/2007 17:16

My coats arrived today, so now I have a dilemma! The black brocade is beautiful, but I'm usually quite plain so I'm not sure if I would feel a bit "loud" in it. The brown is lovely, but in a much more casual way, but I wonder if it might get to look really scruffy really quickly if I wore it in that dressed up jeans way. It's quite a medium brown, mole-y rather than chocolate, think it might show marks from being sat on etc. Anyone got it and care to feed back on this?

Interestingly, there's nothing between the sizes, so I can keep either from that point of view!

The pleated skirt is a disaster on the hip front, but the short moleskin skirt is lovely, definitely keeping that (and have just reordered in teal too

Also ordered one of the wrap dresses on the strength of this thread, so will be interesting to see how that fits.
