Party shoes/boots to go with wideleg trousers?

Need some online shoes for do in few weeks. Wearing old velvet jacket (very dark bluey-green with faint red and gold pattern), wideleg trousers (black), but have no idea what to do about shoes -- or boots?
I'd quite like a low sort of heel to dress it up a bit.
Looked at Monsoon/Hobbs/Toast/Boden online, but haven't see anything right.
Should I go for black?

I'd go for shoes rather than boots (much cheaper too)
if your feet can take pointy toed things they can look fab with wide legs - mine can't so I usually end up wearing a ballet flats, or even sandals (well-polished toes peekeing from wide leg can work v well).
I'd go for something other than black - maybe teal to pick the colour from jacket?

Agree a kitten heel is the dressiest option - Boden normally do a good line in these but guess stocks are low du to sale.

LK Bennett? Nine West?

Ah, thank goodness you turned up Mrs B. You are to Style what Mears is to the breastfeeding threads.
Nervy re matching jacket colour with shoes online, but hey, I'll try. What (god this is embarrassing) does one do about hosiery/kneehigh type things? Say I get teal shoes, what colour should they be?

No hosiery if you can possibly help it, sheer flesh-coloured ankle/knee highs if you absolutely must - shouldn't look like you're wearing them.

Black shoes, if suede, velvet etc rather than shiny leather, would be fine but there are so many beautiful subtley-coloured shoes out there in your price range it seems a sinful waste to buy boring black ones .

MrsBadger · 04/01/2007 17:35

NB shoe colour doesn't have to be an exact match for jacket as they won't be next to each other - even just a toning shade would work.

bossykate · 04/01/2007 17:44

sorry, mrs b totally disagree re hosiery! it is january fhs! no hosiery would be rather, ahem, well...

agree with the shoe advice though!

i would go for v. sheer with a sheen tights or knee highs as you prefer

MrsBadger · 04/01/2007 18:15

tights under trousers?!

nooooooo!

bundle · 04/01/2007 18:27

I'd go for a groovy colour just to mix things up a bit, x

bakedpotato · 05/01/2007 10:32

have bought these in mallard green, not mad on the buckle but fits bill otherwise, Mrs B?

So, I have to wear no hosiery or skin-coloured?

I can understand flesh coloured hosiery, but I just don't get bare feet with proper shoes and winter weight fabrics like velvet - it just looks wrong I think, particularly if you are very pale like me. Like the shoes.

JackieNo · 05/01/2007 10:40

Like the shoes - wouldn't fancy going without tights in January either, though agree with MrsBadger it can look better. But I have to say that if you're wearing hosiery (for want of a better word), I'd go for knee-highs, rather than ankle, because wide-legged trousers can flap around a bit, and if you're crossing your legs or something, the top of an ankle thing could show, and wouldn't look too good.

MrsBadger · 05/01/2007 12:35

nice shoes, potato!

obviously the Tights Issue provokes stong feelings so I shall leave it to your discretion - Jackie makes a good point re ankle-highs but [strict face] wide leg trousers should come to the bottom of your heel so flapping should be minimal.

JackieNo · 05/01/2007 12:38

Absolutely, MrsB - agree on the length. But if it's windy or something, and depending on what material the trousers are made of, they might blow around a bit. Probably not too much of a problem if they're wool, or something similar.

bakedpotato · 05/01/2007 13:29

So useful, all this, had no idea about flesh hosiery being OK and wouldn't have thought of coloured shoes. Yes, my trousers are very long, but I certainly won't risk popsocks (love the grotesque image conjured up by Jackie).

Once went to an NCT meeting where practically everyone was wearing popsocks with Laura Ashley skirts. Still remember it with horror 10 years later.

Mmmm....stylish.
