Is there a HOC Spring thread?

SexNamesRFab · 04/03/2016 18:01

Today I gave in to another mumsnet urge and had my colours done. The session was great but I went shopping afterwards and found it really hard to find anything I liked - I'm a pastel blue spring. I ended up with some navy trousers from Zara (which are prob too dark) and s geranium red jacket (which may be too bright).

I really want this to be more successful than the steam mop and slow cooker. Are there any other springs out there who can help guide me?

I love the sound of your style Frosty. What colour are your eyes? Mine are green/grey/blue. I have never been able to decide what colour they were and this was the HOC lady's official answer when I asked her, do now I'm sticking with it.

I love the whistles shirt - but I am mostly a bargain hunter like eternity. I would like a purple skirt too but haven't seen anything. Skirts this season seem to be ultra mini. There's a lovely geranium red one in Zara if anyone's got the legs for it?

Has anybody seen any nice leopard skin pointed toe pumps? Surely these could pass for spring?

I would also like to invest in a tan leather handbag but haven't found anything I like enough yet.

I am not sure about the quality of HoC make up though...

I saw a pair of leopard skin pointed pumps in my local Clarks outlet last weekend SexNames, but that probably doesn't help you. Blush

eternityleave · 09/03/2016 10:57

I found the Zara skirt you just mentioned SexNames too - lovely colour. The model is 5'8" though so a good 4 inches taller than me, I'm thinking of buying the skirt since it won't have my fanjo on show like hers almost is! Grin

SexNamesRFab · 09/03/2016 19:23

Glad you like the skirt eternity . I have sent my mum off to investigate leopard skin pumps at her local clerks outlet.

I popped into oasis tonight - they had lots of tan (suedette shirt dress & a few different skirts, shoes and boots in the sale), geranium and shell pink (nice trouser suit). I couldn't buy anything as I was meeting DH afterwards and he would have seen the evidence. Might go back tomorrow.

HoC make up - what's the verdict? I worry my lippy and blusher are too bright. Also the lipstick doesn't last well and goes bitty, I've taken to mixing it with Vaseline. Do you wear yours? Have you tried colour matching it with another brand?

I did the style day & am probably just the opposite of you.
I'm a Natural Ingenue. Only 5' tall, size 12 but curvy.. I have a blonde bob too but shoulder length & wavy. I was thoroughly expecting to be a Summer as my hair colour is naturally white blonde & my skin is very pale. I'd puzzled over the veins blue or green though as they didn't seem either, suppose that's a blue spring for you.

So style, I'm supposed to be mostly casual but feminine, jeans with a pretty top, interesting jacket, pretty trims on casual things. Fitted though not boho or floaty, nor very severe & tailored. It was pretty spot on to the type of things I'm always drawn to.

Darklane · 09/03/2016 20:49

I bought a few of their lipsticks when they had a sale last year. The texture isn't great though so I buy high street brands now in the colours that seem the same. There were a lot of lipstick ideas on the old threads that people had found.

I tried this in tonight - it's a lovely warm spring colour (banana?). Too frilly on me though, annoyingly. Could it pass as ingenue?

I usually like L'Oreal lipstick. Do you know if they do any good spring colours?

Nice top.

Mac Crosswires is a banker lippy and worn by many.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 09/03/2016 22:34

Very different formulation but also Max Factor Pink Brandy as a warm pinky red.

Darklane · 10/03/2016 08:50

It could probably pass as an ingenue, or a romantic. The necks too high for me though.
Max Factor have Bewitching Coral too.
Revlon have Lovers Coral, more of a gloss in a stick so not thick formula & Pink in the afternoon is a warm pink.
I don't really know about L'Oreal, sorry, but anything with coral or peach in the name is worth a look.
If you like the twist up crayons, light but bright spring colours, Boots No7 Tropical Beach is good & Bourjois Peach on the Beach.
Mac Vegas Volt was recommended a lot on the previous threads but I haven't seen it as I don't live anywhere near a Mac stockist.

SexNamesRFab · 10/03/2016 21:54

Thank you for the lipstick tips. Boots had max factor on buy one get one half price, so I got both of their colours. They are much creamier and glossier than HOC, so much more me.

Oasis is full if shell pink, coral, geranium red and tan. I really want a tan suede skirt but can't seem to pull it off. Instead I bought 2 cardigans (she'll pink & coral, £25 each) which I think will be good basics. Also some light pinky gold costume jewellery from the bargain bin.

I'm really glad I did this. I was seriously contemplating getting fillers a month ago, but the colour analysis seems to have lifted me out of my gloom. It probably cost the same though!

I love this thread! Paintbox Spring here. I have found that since diagnosed a year ago and torn away from my beloved unflattering sludges I have been able to master one colour at a time - the reds, tans (bizarrely, thought I hated them but so flattering ) and neutrals. Want to nail greens and blues this year. I will look at makeup bag tomorrow as I seem to have nailed that, but can def recommend yak baby doll mascara in brown.

ledgeoffseason · 10/03/2016 21:58

Please keep posting links to current clothes, it's SO useful to confirm colours! (And shamelessly buy same clothes...!) Am also on the hunt for leopard print shoes.

ledgeoffseason · 10/03/2016 21:58

God sorry YSL not yak

Woodhill · 10/03/2016 22:07

Any Clinique buttershine suggestions. Love those.

SexNamesRFab · 11/03/2016 20:18

Hold onto your wallets ladies...

Classic tan handbag:
www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-womens-new-in/tan-pebbled-leather-tote-bag/invt/11166473

Basic cardigan (comes in shell pink & coral):

Geranium blazer:
m.zara.com/uk/en/woman/blazers/buttoned-blazer-c797504p3354504.html

I have this blazer, it's a really flattering shape and lovely colour (more red than the Orange it looks here). Can anyone tell me what to wear with it? Everything I try makes me look like an air hostess/cruise ship pilot.

Ledge - what's a paintbox spring? Confused

OP posts:
ledgeoffseason · 12/03/2016 20:14

Eh... That's just what they told me I was? Ie bright I think. Has no one else been told that?

Hmm might get that cardigan as that colour would be a new one for me.

This thread is great!

petalsandstars · 12/03/2016 21:30

I was told golden blue spring - I've not heard of it anywhere else though maybe she made it up

Frostycake · 31/03/2016 14:33

Oo, this thread has moved on.

SexNamesRFab My eyes are like yours - grey but look blue or green depending on the weather/location/what I'm wearing/the moon phase! (not really)

I've seen some lovely leopard print shoes, I'll try to find them and post a link.

I tried MAC Crosswires and to be honest, It's not the best on me. It's too dull and not clear enough. HOC make up is great for colour (coral & pink) but the lipsticks are drying. I found the coral lipgloss the best. It's gorgeous. I also like Clinique Chubby Stick lip balm in Fuller fig & Graped Up (both apricot colours).

The last stylist I saw told me to stick to shops like Ted Baker, Oasis, Hobbs, Reiss and Whistles for style and colour combo but it's difficult having the colouring of a fairy whilst in the body of a man with boobs Grin a weird combo basically. If I had a lovely soft round apple shaped body I'd be sorted and could shop anywhere.

Frostycake · 31/03/2016 15:52

Does anybody else feel sad at no longer being able to wear white without looking like death warmed up?

I don't think a cream linen dress looks as nice as white with a tan in summer.

Darklane · 31/03/2016 21:50

Not white, no, but black definitely. I used to almost live in black.

Frostycake · 03/04/2016 22:34

Yes, me too but i found that as i got okder, it did me no favours at all. Its fine when youre young with a light tan though, especially for work if you need authority. I wear grey and navy now instead and try hard not to look like i work for a bank/law firm by adding a quirky/feminine/dramatic flourish somewhere in my outfit/accessories/make-up. IIRC some colour systems say that dark haired bright springs can still wear black. Im in process of scouring the shops for 'ivory' and 'warm white' clothes.

Frostycake · 03/04/2016 22:35

'order' not 'orkder' obviously.

Dont want any orks...
