Is this jacket frumpy?

I really like it - it's comfy, goes with loads and is, I think flattering, but my well-meaning teen DD says it looks like a 'Mums' coat'. I normally agree with her about things which have a tendency to look frumpy but I really don't think this is. Any opinions?

Lovely coat and absolutely not mum boots, I have them too and love them.

The coat reminds me of a police uniform for some reason. I'm not keen on silver zips, always think they look cheap.

Those boots are Mum boots though!

Haha it's definitely 50/50 on the are they/aren't they Mum Boots debate!

The silver zips are one of the things I like about the coat, they're nice and chunky and don't look cheap at all imo but then I much prefer silver to gold.

I think gold looks cheap tbh. Far prefer silver.

How anyone can say they're not mum boots is beyond me. They actually use that picture to illustrate exactly what a mum boot is in the Mumsnet Book of What You Can and Can't Wear.

IWantToLiveInPawnee · 03/03/2016 11:44

I think it's because you can't see the pointed toe and zip detail which stops them being the quintessential 'mum boots'.

I doubt anything from Topshop would be mumsy.

amarmai · 03/03/2016 13:43

play up the bikerish with a similar idea boot and fav jeans. The topshop boots wd look great with a knit dress or midi skirt.

MabelFurball · 03/03/2016 20:51

I like the coat, especially the zip feature. Looks like it would be quite slimming and NOT frumpy.

WilburIsSomePig · 03/03/2016 21:33

No, not frumpy.

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/03/2016 21:54

I have very similar boots to those and wear them with short-ish dresses/skirts and opaques. I don't think they're frumpy or mumsy at all, although I wouldn't wear them with jeans. The coat just looks like a sensible coat for shoving on when the weather's not great.
