Blond turning brown turning grey -fighting a losing battle with highlights HELP

I know there are lots of threads on turning grey but none quite 'me'. So here goes.

I'm 48 with two young boys and have always been naturally blond but over the years darker and darker brown which I have fought relentlessly with highlights but now I have about 3 inch regrowth much faster and many many dark grey strands

Should I bite the bullet and dye my hair blond/brown or can I continue to fight this losing battle with highlights?

I've been quite lucky with only 3 hairdresser disasters over the years but the last one was in Jan when I had 50 highlights only to find I overcooked and am now dry to add to the battle. Am thinking of frequent 11 foils visits as a way forward?

Ps I'm an outdoorsy type that likes the wind on my (eye/lip makeup only) face and dreadful with regrowth and maintenance.

Pps - Going natural is not an option with the grey colour palette I've been given

How about getting it all cut short if it's dry and then blonde all over? You will have to stay on top of the roots every 4-6 weeks, but it should be easier to manage being short. As you go more grey it will lighten anyway so roots will be less noticeable in blonde. If you have a cool skin tone, go for a cooler blonde, ash or ice blonde. Warm skin tone will suit honey colours.

In the meantime, treat your hair to some intensive hair masks or oil treatments. Good luck.

If you go all over colour you will be faced with a very obvious regrowth line - much, much more than you do with highlights.

Bumping, because I'm in pretty much the same position as the op.

I was born blonde but gradually my hair got mousy.
I have been blonde for years.
I am now quite grey but I get high and low lights so the regrowth isn't too obvious.

Thanks all, I had a lengthy pre-appointment at the hairdressers today and a patch colour test. She has convinced me that highlights will not keep up and that I do indeed need all over coverage in the same colour as my eyebrows (Goldwell 8NN) and I can then subsequently choose highlights/lowlights over it if I choose at a future date. So here goes, steps onto slippery slide of hair dye results in a few days ......
