Need to replace my wedding ring - suggestions of where to shop for something a little different

I had a platinum eternity ring from Mappin and Webb for my wedding ring 7 years ago. It cost circa ?1500 so not very expensive but not Christmas cracker giveaway either. Over the years it has shed no less than 3 diamonds

With dh's blessing I am replacing it. High street jewellery stores in "the Provinces" do not do it for me...but I am not looking for too quirky uber fashionable or alternativey either.

Quite like the one below, but would like some more options to choose from. Don't wish to spend more than ?3K.

Any suggestions?

this one is quite appealing

Ok, firstly 3k on a ring retail just means you will get ripped off, ie. 600 quid of actual ring. Enormous mark ups in the jewellery trade.

so choices could be:

  1. Copy a design you like from shopping on all these lovely websites you've been given (the ring you chose is lovely by the way). And get someone to make it up - the actual ring comes already made, the 'work' is attaching the stone. An extremely thick platinum pre made ring mould would only cost about £500. And that means you could have any stone you wanted.

  1. Go to Antwerp for the stones. 4 years ago I got half\carat diamond earrings for £400 - D colour, VVS1, round brilliant cut - in this country when I had the valuation done for insurance/replacement it was £2000. Actually I would just go to Antwerp for the ring, all the shops are in one street and earnestly compete with each other.

  1. With 3k you could buy something totally amazing which is antique from Christie's, Sotheby's etc. Some fabulous art deco piece, top quality and no stupid retail markups - you would get three grand of ring and not just a modern ring 'worth'a fifth of it.

Even at Hatton Garden it's only as cheap as Britain gets, and that ain't cheap!

I got told off on here once for wanting to spend a much more modest (but granted, not cheap) £3K on a ring to replace my wedding ring which kept shedding diamonds. Apparently I should only spend £1k and give the rest to charity about 12 posts up from my OP. I never did get that bloody ring!!!! (I think we probably decorated the sitting room instead )

Wow, I would be pretty cross if the stones started falling out of my ring after only six years. Did you just get them put back in?

Didn't realise this was an old thread when I opened it - think you'd come in for much more of a pasting these credit-crunchy Lidl-shopping days!

Sorry, seven years rather than six. I can read when I'm not so mashed from an early-morning start.
