Holy grail mascara?

PitPatKitKat · 04/02/2016 10:42

Searching for a great mascara, one can I just buy again and again.

My favourite ever mascara was Cil a Cil by Bourjois (sadly discontinued many moons ago).

It added length and volume, could be layered in many thin coats without flaking, sumdging or clumping, looked dramatic but lashes were still natural and glossy looking.

So I am looking for something similar. Most things I have tried recently are too much about volume so end up flaky/clumpy, e.g. Benefit They're Real or Chanel Le Volume.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

clarins wonderperfect

Hayels · 05/02/2016 00:12

I feel like I scoured the earth for the perfect mascara. To me, it's L'Oreal volume million lashes (the purple one). Doesn't flake or clump. Volumises and separates. Doesn't run but still comes off easily with make up remover. You'll have to prise it out of my cold dead hands

Abominablebride · 05/02/2016 00:21

Yes yes to Perversion by Urban Decay.
My lashes have never looked so long and thick and they are white blonde stubbies usually!

BuzzardBird · 05/02/2016 11:30

I have always loved Dior Show but on my last visit to ask for a sample the consultant informed me that all the formulations are the same, they just keep changing the brushes/applicators. So she gave me the new style wand and told me to use it in whatever I already had. I was quite shocked that she was potentially loosing a sale.

Jackie0 · 05/02/2016 11:34

Really Buzzard?
That's a bit of a con.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 05/02/2016 11:35

I like benefit Rollerlash, we did a comparison in work of that on one eye and ysl false lash on the other and it made my lashes look longer and not clumped. Its much better than theyr real.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 05/02/2016 11:36

And I always apply two coats which makes them longer but not flaky or anything.

PitPatKitKat · 05/02/2016 11:43

That's interesting Buzzard

I like the look of the curved brush one of the Dior mascaras has.

Yes, she gave me the new wand and I tried it in my Dior Show which I already had and it didn't apply as well as the one I already had, so I didn't bother purchasing the new one. Really strange because when I worked in that particular store the cosmetics girls were targeted up to the eyeballs and would do anything to get a sale.

I am now torn between buying Lancome (but then again, which one?) or shopping around again for something that has a similar brush to the old Dior Show.

There are too many to choose from, it is taking me months.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 05/02/2016 15:55

I got some Benefit They're Real mascara for Xmas. Not usually a huge fan ofBenefit but it's brilliant.

londonginge86 · 05/02/2016 15:57

I've had lots of compliments since I switched to the new Maybelline 'the falsies' mascara. It's fabulous. Previously I was also loyal to bourjois but the Volume Glamour once, also great.

Madbengalmum · 05/02/2016 16:08

I used to like diorshow, but they have watered it down and i have gone off it.

The best are either lancome hypnose or Clinique, the latter is great value and very good.

PitPatKitKat · 06/02/2016 07:36

Had a clinque mini at the end of the year last year Madbengalmum and it was nearly right- good balance between volumising and lengthening, not too clumpy.

I've been searching for a good mascara for sooo long Buzzard. I've nearly given up hope. Most of last year, every time a magazine had a free sample of one, I'd just buy a few copies, s I had despaired if finding a decent one.

Now that I come to think of it, maybe the clinque one gave me hope. Not quite right, but close enough to make me think that cosmetics companies are maybe over the "volume is everything" obsession they seem to have been suffering with for the last few years. If I want dramatic volume I just apply false lashes, either strip or individual ones But I don't want that look all the time, and I defintiely don;t want a clumpy mascara"

...so this year I am determined to find the perfect one. I do still have a clinque sample in a drawer somewhere. If I don't find the perfect mascara on my hunt, I'll give the clinque one another go and buy a full size, as I think it might be not the ideal masacra, but a good enough all rounder to worth buying.

Just tried younique's 3d lash mascara and must say it's fab! Lengthening and thickening without looking clumpy x

PitPatKitKat · 06/02/2016 11:41

Does it have aloe vera in it too Madz?

The new Roller one from Benefit. You can try it for £10 (travel size). I only buy travel sizes where possible as I find it lasts a full 3 months which is the recommended shelf life. Anyway the Roller one is fab. If you're in a hurry you don't need to use eyelash curlers as this curls them for you. Might be a coincidence but nearly every time I've used it I've been told I look really nice. One person said my eyes looked big and white. I'm a convert. Mind you I still love Million lashes from L'oreal.

Kimberleyj92 · 06/02/2016 12:54

You should try the Arbonne's "it's a long story". Incredible mascara with no flaking and super build-able too. Let me know if you'd like to sample, I'd be happy to help Smile

ehupmeduck · 06/02/2016 12:57

No7 Lash Impact is all about layering without clumping or flaking. You can build it from a natural look to a false lash look by adding more coats. It has a lovely sparkly pack too!

BuzzardBird · 06/02/2016 13:17

Know what you mean Pit To me there is nothing worse than clumpy, spidery eyelashes. I want them to look sleek and long and glossy with looking 'fat' IYSWIM?

I might give the Benefit Roller one a go as a mini size is better for me that gets bored quickly. I have tried the Clinique high impact one. It has the kind of brush I like (like the old Dior) and doesn't irritate my eyes, but I would like slightly more 'wow'. I am currently using a Clarins Be long, which is nice but the brush is so tiny that it takes too long to put on if I am rushing to get DD to school.

It's perfection I'm after. Grin

PegsPigs · 06/02/2016 13:40

I bought the Max Factor black with gold wavy bits and it flakes by lunchtime so will try a few of these suggestions

PitPatKitKat · 06/02/2016 15:12

Exactly Buzzard. I think we seek the same thing...

That is just what I think about the Clinque one...I want one like that but with more oomph. The quest is for a mascara that delivers sleek, silky, glossy, long, elegant, beautiful and ultra healthy.

Better wear flats on Monday for going round the shops huh?

LizzieVereker · 06/02/2016 15:21

This is the one:

Guerlain Maxi Lash

I know it says "volume" but it doesn't make your lashes fat. I have bought every mascara on Earth in my quest for long but not fat lashes, and this is it.

Alexcorn16 · 06/02/2016 15:30

Lancome hypnose

Madbengalmum · 06/02/2016 15:51

I think its lancome hypnose if you want a good all rounder OP
