please help me find a bridesmaid dress

my friend is getting married in a couple of months and I am one of the bridesmaids. she bought me a beautiful pale blue dress but unfortunately it's FAR too small (this is my own fault for telling her to order it in a certain size. wishful thinking)

She's happy for me to buy a replacement but I don't know where to start. I was hoping to pick your s&b brains!

All the bridesmaids are in different dresses but in similar colours (see pic). Some are a little more pale grey but are all basically along the lines of this blue.

I am fat Blush and feel like I won't look nice in anything but maybe someone here can direct me to a dress that might flatter a size 18-20...

thank you!

I don't see anything in your picture, sorry, but I'm certain you'll find one at (try online)

Debenhams
House of Fraser
Asos

My sil had exactly the same issue with her bm dress last year and bought an almost identical one from debenhams.

LettuceLaughton · 28/01/2016 19:32

What sort of style are you after?

DianaT1969 · 28/01/2016 19:50

Try Lindy Bop - the 50s shape always looks great on a curvy figure. www.lindybop.co.uk/dresses-c1/prom-formal-c18#t7:t2
You do need to buy one size up with Lindy Bop in my opinion.

I'm sure you'll look absolutely beautiful and you have a couple of months to increase your activity levels before the big day. Just the psychological effect of being more active and toned will boost your confidence. This blog is inspiring for plus size clothing ideas www.curvywordy.com/2014/06/collectif-dolores-doll-yellow-summer.html
She rocks everything she wears.

Are the other bridesmaids in very different styles, or are there some common features e.g. long/short, sleeves/sleeveless, shiny/glittery, understated/glamorous?

NewYearSameMe · 28/01/2016 20:02

Is this to glam?

NewYearSameMe · 28/01/2016 20:03

I like this one too.

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2016 20:08

Phase 8? Actually there are a few possibilities in that colour on Phase 8 website, but no filter for the shade of blue.

to answer some questions about info I forgot to give (sorry);

  • I can't really afford to spend more than £100 but I was hoping to find something under £70 if possible
  • it doesn't have to be a particular style as all the dresses are different but it would maybe look odd if it was very very embellished or with long sleeves etc, as the other dresses are knee length (ish) and not 'blingy'.
  • I can't really say what style of dress I usually like as I rarely wear them! I'm basically just looking for something that's as flattering as possible (so straight at the shoulder sleeveless would make my arms look tubbier than a halter neck for example)

Most of the Chi Chi range is around the £70 mark ...

Find a fabric you love and a clever dressmaker to make you look fab!

dressmeinblueplease · 30/01/2016 12:28

I considered a dress maker but wouldn't they be really expensive? The cost of making it plus the material? I have no idea how much a dressmaker charges

Thank you loadsa, I'd never heard of chi chi but have seen a few on there that look like contenders Smile

Just another idea, I can recommend this site www.dessy.com/?gclid=CLHYzcrO0coCFUORGwods7UJ3g they supply to many bridal shops but if you order direct you'll save money. The dresses come from America so you need to give yourself plenty of time for delivery and make sure you order a good size. Really nice quality and a whole range of colours and styles.

LazySusan11 · 30/01/2016 13:43

Something like this in the light sky blue?
