Michael Kors bags - Yay or Nay?

I like them. But so does every 15 year old in South London. Would you be seen dead wearing one?

OP posts:

Not for me.
As you have said, half of the teenage girls where I have have a fake one dangling from their elbow.
One step up from River Island, in my opinion.

JackandDiane · 11/01/2016 10:03

no
ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH

AmberNectarine · 11/01/2016 10:17

I have a grey one that I use for my laptop and work papers - they won't fit in my Chanel :)

polyhymnia · 11/01/2016 10:28

It's a devalued brand IMO.
The Jetset is a nice and practical design but even that would be spoilt for me by the blingy logo hanging there. Perhaps you can remove this though?

AmberNectarine · 11/01/2016 10:32

It's not my favourite bag - I have many lovely ones - however, it is probably the most hard wearing and best designed. Lots of sensible pockets and takes a battering. Relatively inexpensive too, which is what I want for lugging my work crap.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 11/01/2016 10:41

I have one I'll happily use, which I admit is because it's rare - not a style I think was sold for long in the UK, maybe not at all? It's this Bedford Triple Gusset bag in bright blue (not hot pink!!). I'll add Celine to Blingy's list of designers that MK has ripped off, as it's basically a copy of the Trio bag.

The logo/hardware is silver and there are no dangly bits. I love it.

LoadsaBlusher · 11/01/2016 10:53

Nay

AmberNectarine · 11/01/2016 11:17

My mum has that bag in burgundy Blair and it is lovely, much subtler than their usual offerings.

I like the simpler styles like that and the jet set. I HATE the Hamilton.

squoosh · 11/01/2016 11:27

Nay.

It's not so much the bags themselves but the tacky branding. The gold logo and the dangly whatsit are very ugly. Plus they often come in quite tacky colours.

ouryve · 11/01/2016 11:29

Nay.

They're too obviously "designer".

Longislandicetee · 11/01/2016 11:44

I am currently considering the Antigona. If I wanted to spend less, a good option is the Michael Kors Emery.

I own the Prada saffiano tote. It's a great bag. Clearly, Michael Kors think so because the saffiano Selma originally had the double zips.

Neither the Emery nor the Selma are tacky!. I did get on a plane last year back from holiday. I had been using my jetset as a travel handbag. Virtually every woman on the plane had a MK bag. But admittedly the very brash ones.GrinThat was an extreme case though!

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 11/01/2016 11:46

i've not got one, but think they look a nice size and shape for a work bag
i know it's shallow, but the dangly gold MK thingie puts me off though

Whathaveilost · 11/01/2016 11:48

You are not a sheep that has to follow internet opinion on taste.

If you like something and you want it well bloody well get it.
Life is too short to worry about being judged by having the 'wrong' handbag.

oobedobe · 11/01/2016 18:11

I have a lovely crossbody black leather one, it does have a bit of gold hardware chain and a tassle, I took the big MK logo thingy off months ago (it just clips on/off).

The leather is beautiful and I like the hardware (stops it being so plain like my fossil/radley bags).

IMO Kate Spade seems to be the new 'it' bag label (for the masses) here. To be fair the outlet prices are very reasonable. Would never pay full price for any MK, Coach or Kate Spade.

So if you have seen one you like and it is a good price then buy away I say!

DurhamDurham · 11/01/2016 18:17

If you like the bags gets one but for me the tacky gold emblem would put me off. I dislike obviously 'designer' things and think they lack style and taste.

wannanewone · 11/01/2016 19:54

No.
But for a very personal reason: Colleague from hell had one and they always remind me of her, and sitting in silent, tense office for months.

Only1scoop · 11/01/2016 19:56

I had a very understated cross body/large tote

It had muted silver metalwork on it but was still a bit much.

Madbengalmum · 11/01/2016 19:57

Noooooo.

MaisieDotes · 11/01/2016 20:00

No. 14yo DD has a fake black one and she teams it with an Addidas hoody and Air Maxes for that faux-ghetto girl look.

Also hoopy earrings.

So for me it's a no.

GreyTS · 11/01/2016 20:05

As CookieDoughKid said, Coccinelle is a lot better for the same money, good leather, great colours and not ubiquitous (or tacky) like MK

ByThePrickingOfMyThumbs · 11/01/2016 20:05

No. For an expensive bag, they look very cheap and tacky IMO.

But if you like it, they get it. Mumsnet isn't the style police. I have loads of things that Syle and Beauty deems Simply Not Done

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 11/01/2016 20:06

Looks lovingly at mine cos it's a fake one my mum got me from her holiday she had no idea that it was a knock off branded name.

mintoil · 11/01/2016 20:08

Yes, I love mine!! I have a black saffiano and it's really durable and just goes with everything. It's a perfect size too.

MsMims · 11/01/2016 20:14

No, they're horrible. Worse than primark.

CalmYoBadSelf · 11/01/2016 20:14

I have this one and, although it isn't my favourite bag ever, I get compliments whenever I use it and it is lasting well
