I had 3 but binned the other two as they have scarred my rib cage under my bust and my armpit area quite badly and I could only wear them with cotton wool cleansing pad sticking out from under all the really painful areas. So. I used the better bra guide that is suggested on here and my under bust was 30 and round my boobs was 40 so I figured I was a 30gg? Well no bra answering to that name seemed to agree with me and I tried looooads. So. Helpful girl in Debenhams came into the cubicle measured me and gave me all the wrong information, said I was a 34 or 36 band, did me up on the tightest row of hooks yanked straps tight to try and get rid of the gaps at the top of the cups and then just started bringing in random sizes. I got hotter and sweater and more frustrated and did what I always do, left with one that felt and looked 'ok'. It was a 32f. I have tried it on at home and it's not the right size. I know it. The back rides up and it doesn't feel right. The one I am wearing causes me untold discomforts and I'm sure is contributing to the horrendous headaches I have. What to do?????

I am ridiculously excited for you! I was recently fitted in a fabulous independent underwear shop nearby, and came out wearing 32DD bras, instead of the 36A that M&S had me in for YEARS.

You will feel like a new women!

SugarDiabetes · 02/01/2016 22:42

Or even a new woman!!

I went to Bravissimo for a bra to fit under a dress for a special occasion 3 years ago and haven't looked back. They are so helpful. The first one the girl got me to try made me look down and say 'hello' to boobs that looked magnificent for the first time! 32E whereas i had been wearing a 34 DD. I found a style that fit me well.. Panache. Now I know my size and style I buy them from eBay in bundles for great prices or BNWT for less than half price.

Pixilicious · 02/01/2016 23:01

Can anyone recommend somewhere for small boobs to be measured? I went to bravissimo once (many years ago) not realising they were for bigger boobs than mine and the lady sneeringly said 'we don't have anything to fit you''. I ran away humiliated.

Unusual for them to behave like that Pixi, but JohnLewis are normally about the best of the department stores. Or try self measuring using the guide at the better bra campaign website

SusannahD · 02/01/2016 23:45

Don't go to m & s, for a start they don't stock any bras with a back size 30 which it sounds like you are. Go to bravissimo they are fab.

IndomitabIe · 03/01/2016 00:40

Pixi - self measure as Stat suggests.

I did a couple of years ago and went from the disappointing, baggy 34A M&S told me I was to an impressive 28D! (The psychology of it amazes me!)

Only thing is that it's near impossible to find such a size here. Though I haven't dared buy online yet (such is the hangover of a lifetime of no bra ever fitting).

If only I'd known this as a teenager...

Truckingalong · 03/01/2016 07:48

M and S do do some size 30s. Just don't get measured there.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 03/01/2016 07:53

I have the same measurements as you OP, I tried to buy some 30gs and 32fs in Debenhams myself but couldn't get any to fit. Went to bravissimo instead and got two that are just right - but get an appointment and a fitter to help you. Good luck!

I went into bravissimo wearing a 38DD. I wanted a nicely fitting white bra to wear under my wedding dress.

We went straight for a 36E. I couldn't breathe.

So then we tried lots of 38 DD's again. I came out with one. Tried it again two days later felt like I couldn't breathe and took it back.

For my wedding I wore one of the off the peg new ones in bought in a 38 DD.

I don't think I had a very good fitter. She was pleasant but seemed a bit flippant.

When I pointed out the overhang I was told that was me

Went to a sainsburys. Saw a couple of bras in the sale for about £6 each in 3dd.Had a good look at them, decided they looked like they would fit. Tried them on at home and they fit beautifully and are the comfiest bras I've ever had.

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/01/2016 12:58

Another shout for Bravissimo. I'd worn a 34b or 36a for years, and was surprised when my friend who's a size 16 told me she also wore a 36 - I'm a 10, so I figured something must be up. I came out of Bravissimo a 32d. Freya is my preferred brand, and I tend to buy online from sites that sell older stock - sometimes even eBay sellers - now I know my size.

SugarDiabetes · 11/01/2016 02:36

How did you get on, OP?

LetsDoThis74 · 20/01/2016 00:11

Sorry about name change I have 2 log ins and can't remember the other one! Anyhow I went to Bravissimo on Saturday, was there for the best part of an hour left with a Freya Deco in 30g. Wore it to work monday and Tuesday and today have 3 really sore spots that will result in broken skin and cotton wool pads if I attempt to wear that bra again. Back to the drawing board.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/01/2016 18:41

Take it back - if you've been fitted bravissimo will return even if worn. I can't see what size you were wearing before but it's also possibly a bit if size shock - if you've been wearing a much bigger band before then the pressure points will be entirely different. Bit like the first time you put flip flops on after wearing winter boots and promptly get sore bits on your toes!
