Facial mole - keep it or have a scar?

I am now at an age when my large, dark, and very visible mole is no longer simply part of 'my face' but is making me feel increasingly self conscious.

It's between nose and lip, and is the classic 'witches' mole'.

Regardless of how I could have it removed, I'll be left with a scar in the same place. I don't wear make up. There's no point putting makeup on my mole in any case, but I would be willing to dab some concealer etc on a flat scar,

Anyone had to make this choice? I feel like it's ageing my face which has enough ageing problems to contend with without this!

They look like moles Bucking - but they're not Hmm I'm having radiolase to remove them rather than the shave excision. Have a look on YouTube

Has anyone had their moles removed via laser? Looking at Zenith clinic in Notts.

I can't believe it's so cheap!! Those who only paid 2-300£ were they big sticky out moles? I have one in my jaw I hate - it's soooo sticky out.

Don't forget it's a medical procedure, not getting your bikini like waxed. People taking moles off your face should be plastic surgeons.

I had two large 'witches moles' removed. One near eye the other side of nose.
I felt like a new woman once they were gone. The scaring will be so minimal. Go for it. You will be pleased you have I promise you OP.

I'm really reassured to read these stories! My dd has a rapidly growing type of mole on her face called a spitz naevus which was removed by the dermatologist by shave excision and cauterisation under local. It was fab and left hardly a mark...but it's already started to grow back just weeks later!

We're waiting for an app to have it removed again, this time by a 'punch excision' which will be closed up by internal and external stitches. This should remove the entire thing, ensuring it won't grow back. It's on her face so I've been panicking about scars. It's nice to hear so many people with good reports of little scarring.

I've had a mole/skin tag on my groin/inside leg all my life - recently I read about tying them to remove them - I did this and it's now gone with no scar!!
Completely different to yours but I would say go for removal, the scar will be smaller than you expect!

FlatOnTheHill · 01/01/2016 21:23

You can get them removed on the NHS if they are bothering you. Ie painful, catching on clothing etc. i had mine done on the NHS. Would always go down NHS route first as the surgeons are generally the same as private. They work between nhs and private practices. Im in this industry so know.

Flat thank you, I'll try the GP first if only for a recommendation. Gulp!

These are two of the ones I'm having taken off. Def a plastic surgeon doing the work and a good looking one at that - read lots of reviews of his work etc.

ChipinTheSugar
Mine were like that. One near the eye too. You will feel great once they removed. I felt i looked younger.

BrendaandEddie · 01/01/2016 22:17

Scar

Sonofagun · 01/01/2016 22:19

ChipInTheSugar can I ask where you are having this done? Have two moles similar to yours between one and mouth I'd like to have removed. Thanks

thenightsky · 01/01/2016 22:20

chip Your are like mine were. GP removed them about 10 years ago and my skin looks like they were never there.

BrendaandEddie · 01/01/2016 22:26

Son had a burst blood vessel under his eye. Lazed privately and zap

lurkingabit · 01/01/2016 22:40

Before you have surgery, ask your plastic surgeon what kind of a scar it will leave.

midnightmoomoo · 01/01/2016 22:41

I had a mole taken off my nose a few years ago and there's barely a scar there.....and I've had huge problems with keloid scars on my ear and shoulder in the past. It might not be as bad as you think, and if you're self conscious a scar will cover up more easily than the mole. Good luck if you go ahead, I appreciate it's a tricky decision.

SmellOfPythonInTheMorning · 01/01/2016 22:43

I had a massive one taken off my forehead by a Harley St dermatologist. She told me I'd have a small scar but there's nothing. I had put it off for years for fear of scarring, now I wish I'd done it sooner.

I'm near Birmingham - consultant is Garth Titley, at The Spire, Little Aston.
