I am at a New Years Eve party where dress code is black tie & cocktail s. Lovely I thought...until I saw 'no heels' on the invite. What the heck? I am five foot tnothing and not the slimmest so need all the height I can get! Any suggestions? I cant imagine wearing apish frock and wandering around in stockinged feet...

Is it no heels because of wooden floors? If so, get some heel protectors and inform your host/ess?

This happened to me recently. I was not impressed! Wore jewelled flats and took heels in bag. Flipping hostess was wearing heels! I put mine on? It's only really proper stilettos that cause damage really!!
Next time I will refuse her invite as I felt so unwelcome.

Insanity. Why make your floor so precious that nobody is allowed to stand on it?

Get sparkly flats. French Sole if you can afford it.

Wedges? They have a flat sole.

Novelty socks,.slippers, a nice pedicure and flip flops???

I would ask your hosts if its just stilletos that are banned and go for wedges or a high block heel.

We are going to friends for drinks this afternoon and I just reminded dh to put on socks with no holes as she makes everyone take off their shoes (even trainers or flats) as they go into her house. Not for cultural reasons, she just doesn't want her floors scratched Hmm

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/12/2015 15:55

Little velvet slippers.

I make people take their shoes off here too. Nothing wrong with that, we live in the country, its muddy and my children crawl around on our wooden floors!

Anyway. Jewelled flats or strappy wedges
