Size 14, 5ft3ins, classic pear shape. Need a really sharp/classy business suit trouser or skirt. Where to go?

Not sure I can help, but what sort of budget?

mateychops · 15/12/2006 12:44

I got one from Per Una, black jacket with straight trousers and pencil skirt. Not too expensive, skirt and trousers are washable.

Depends how much you want to spend - Hobbs is brill, but I can't afford. Next is very affordable. With time, you can get some real bargains in TK Maxx

I just tried to get a suit but shops seem full of black sparkly stuff... depending on budget would say Hobbs LK Bennett or Maz Mara... M+S usually good but not much in at the moment

feelingfedup · 16/12/2006 10:49

Can spend upto £200

Need to keep this bumped for MrsBadger, or MaloryTowers, or Anniemac - all of them are good on this kind of thing...

feelingfedup · 17/12/2006 12:54

Is it worth waiting till january sales?

ooh, have only just found this (due to Jackie mentioning my name so it came up on my weekly Ego Search )

For really classic (ie not overly catwalk-led) tailoring, try Aquascutum, Daks, Reiss, Jaeger or Austin Reed.
If you're in London, the Ede & Ravenscroft on Gracechurch St does 'personal tailoring' where they alter suits from a standard pattern to your exact specification (trouser shape, jacket lengths, buttons, linings etc) at remarkably reasonable prices.
Actually if you shop around you may find somewhere who'll do bespoke for £200, but realistically you'd be looking at £300+.

i always used to get my suits from jigsaw - lovely fabrics which lasted well and hung nicely

they often sell slightly different jackets/trs/skirts in the same fabric and colour so you can mix and match

sale pricing makes a big difference
