Help with two cringe-tactic Christmas events please - jumper and fancy dress

Neither stylish nor beautiful but I have two work related (compulsory otherwise I would not be partaking!) Christmas events that require the purchase of:

A Christmas jumper - is it possible to find a nice winter themed jumper so that it can be worn again this winter? Without sounding all woe is me, it's the first Christmas since STBXH has left so feeling the pinch a bit financially.

Blues brothers fancy dress. Our work Christmas dinner has been consolidated into a bigger 'theme' night so the MD has dictated that we all need to come in fancy dress - easy for the men, not so easy for the women although my facial hair would go some distance towards classification as sideburns

TIA

jumper - pin tinsel on, get some green felt and cut out holly leaves, stitch on with some red beads.

Blues brothers - you could be a nun, girlfriend with the missile launcher (any outfit with a book under your arm labelled as the book she reads while doing her nails), a waitress type outfit for the diner scene, police outfit, choir robes, church lady (hat and shiny suit from a charity shop)

If you live in Kent you must be going to the same party as my sister because she's going to a Blues Brothers party too.

She's going as Twiggy - who wore gold lame and rolled hair.

If you're not in Kent, just copy her outfit.

Snowflake £25 House of Fraser

Talisin · 26/11/2015 16:05

This Next one at £22 is nice and comes in a couple of different colours.

CointreauVersial · 26/11/2015 17:37

I saw some really pretty jumpers in both M&S and Sainsburys, not too expensive, and tasteful enough that they could be worn again. M&S had a pale pink one with little white sequin snowflakes.

Blues Brothers fancy dress is so easy! Skinny trousers, white shirt (I had a white lace one when I did it), black jacket, black tie, sunglasses, heels.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2015 18:20

Oh and a hat, if you want one (and why wouldn't you, let's face it?!). Grin

Wolfiefan · 26/11/2015 18:22

Lidl and Sainsburys both have cheapy Christmas jumpers at the moment.
I would just wear black for the other. Inflatable sax?!

MrsAlexanderSkarsgard · 26/11/2015 19:12

Asda have got loads of jumpers/tops for around £12

Yseulte · 26/11/2015 19:40

If you get a full on xmas jumper you can't really wear it for anything else.

Id rather buy something I could wear in the winter.

herecomesthsun · 26/11/2015 19:43

star cardigan

Yseulte · 26/11/2015 19:54

I like that! Would look nice with jeans.

JennaRoss · 26/11/2015 22:15

Thanks for fab suggestions, I didn't think 'tasteful' and 'christmas jumper would go in the same sentence, but some of the winter themed ones are nice.

Yseulte don't live in Kent, but might be the same do as it's a company wide thing that we are going to.
