What do people wear out to a restaurant meal with friends on a Saturday night?

I feel so sad posting this question.

I'm visiting old friends next weekend. Neither of them have children yet. We'll be going out to eat.

I only ever go out with DH at weekends. If I go out with (parent) friends, it will be a mid-week, more casual affair or else around someone's house.

we'll be in a rural county town. I don't know whether to dress smart casual, as though meeting for Sunday lunch or more dressy, as though out on the town for the night.

Please help me. What would YOU wear?

Mmm coming up to christmas everyone might tend to go for a bit more dressy than usual. How about plainish trousers but dressed up with velvety jacket type and nice jewelery?

oh i would wear nice jeans, a sparkly top and some high heels, nice jewellery and lots of slap!

I'd probably go for a knee length A-line skirt, high boots and a fab top. Bit dressier than jeans but still warm enough for waiting for a taxi afterwards!
