Those of you with boys who have poker straight hair what do you ask the barber for to stop the straight across bowl haircut look?

Because no matter what I say it gets cut like this.

Including 'don't cut his fringe straight across' and 'don't cut his fringe in a horizontal line it looks like a bowl hair cut' and 'can you feather the fringe please'

Help!!

Watching with interest, as this is exactly what happens with my DS every time too!!

amarmai · 22/11/2015 21:08

women's hairdressers are also trained to cut male hair.

A Number 3

I also have a DS with this issue - haven't solved it yet. We don't have the bowl cut look because DSs hair is this and poker straight so looks a bit more like Joey from friends, whatever he does. (DH still works this look much to the DCs horror) According to the hairdresser whatever they do still requires some work from the child / me in terms of wax / other product, and to be fair she can make it look good, we can just never reproduce it.

LemonBreeland · 22/11/2015 21:23

Get a better barber! DS1 has my poker straight hair. We always got them to cut into the fringe a bit to thin it out so that it isn't a straight line.

OneMoreForExtra · 22/11/2015 21:32

DS fortunately has an extra crown on his hairline above his right eye, which I ask them to graduate from, giving a nice cowlick and suggestion of a side parting.

Tomboyinatutu · 22/11/2015 21:36

We just get short back and sides and a trim on top for our ds, looks great on him

dementedpixie · 22/11/2015 21:39

Ds gets a 1 at back and sides and long enough to spike on the top (although rarely wears gel tbh)

Whyisitsodifficult · 22/11/2015 21:42

Wax is your friend! I have the same problem but no matter what the barber does I still have to use the wax to avoid that look!

Lenazabaglione · 22/11/2015 21:56

I usually just say "please don't make him look like Herman Munster"

mumsnit · 22/11/2015 22:08

Always had this with DS until I took him to a trendier barber's! Guy in there just left it longer and cut in more texture (otherwise it grows forwards from a double crown poor lad!).

I had previously bought some thinning scissors just for chipping into the fringe which did work quite well.

Fissues · 22/11/2015 22:09

No idea! DS always comes out looking like a Lego man despite the fact that I ask them not to give him a bowl hair cut.

Moln · 22/11/2015 22:20

He has a double crown, which means I can't really go for a no3 all over as it really looks bad

Tried, now, all barbers in the area. Ah!!!!

Maybe I should bring a picture of Justin Bieber in fir the side sweep thing (though if DS caught even a whiff of my suggestion of that I'd be in trouble!!)

Few more years and he'll be going it alone for his haircut. I look forward to shirking the responsibility.

Ho to a hairdresser

wickedlazy · 23/11/2015 04:19

Short back and sides, with top quite short that I run a tiny bit of gel through in the mornings.

Pic is just after being cut, hairdresser (barber really, but as she's a she seems odd to call her a barber) puts more gel in than I do.

Those of you with boys who have poker straight hair what do you ask the barber for to stop the straight across bowl haircut look?
wickedlazy · 23/11/2015 04:23

Was really hard the first time I got it cut so short, I loved it when it was long and silky, but was starting to look like op's pic so decided to just go for it. So much easier to manage now.

herecomesthsun · 23/11/2015 08:42

I like the Joey from friends look and have suggested it to my son's hairdresser, otherwise I just ask for very short at the sides but with a little more fullness at the top. Or take a picture you like?

My son had such straight hair that you could see every single cut in it. He had long and shaggy for a while, done by hairdresser. If you want short and spiky he goes to a barber. Now he is 17 he goes to a male hairdresser who was given a haircut like Kim jong ill and he seems to be very pleased with that

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 23/11/2015 09:34

I take DS to a decentish barber and instruct them to take the bare minimum off. Tbh, it's got a kink to it but he's cursed with my fine but lots of it hair. I have enough trouble stopping it from just hanging around my face after spending a bloody fortune! When he goes to school next year it'll have to be short I think to prevent the dreaded nits, poor kid!
