I've got chunky calves...b*gger it.

I've looked at Duo but nothing I want there. Anyone else got any gorgeous brown boots that you can wear with jeans or a skirt that will fit someone with calves like a rugby player?! I don't mind straps or buckles on them but I don't want a high heel.

Please help!

Jones the Bootmaker's boots are quite wide at the top

danceswithreindeer · 11/12/2006 16:55

ARGH! USAUKmum, how wide are your calves?!

USAUKMum · 11/12/2006 17:49

I have one that is 16inches, the other is 18nches. That is 41cm and 45cm

USAUKMum · 11/12/2006 17:50

BTW a friend of mine got a cobbler to put extra vents in some boot for her. Cost £30.

danceswithreindeer · 11/12/2006 17:50

Next also do wide fittings here

littlelamb · 11/12/2006 18:28

Ooo I have those Lexiss Timerland ones! I have wide calves and they were the only ones I could find that fit. They are gorgeous, and so comfy- didn't have to break them in, and still look great after a couple of months wear. The thing I liked about them is that unlike lots of other 'wide fit' boots they're not enormous around the ankle, so actually make your legs look fantastic. I highly recommend them

USAUKMum · 11/12/2006 19:48

Definately hope for you -- as I believe I was able to do them up on my "small" calf

Tommy · 11/12/2006 20:04

these from M&S fit round my chunky calves

LovelyKay · 11/12/2006 20:20

Try Mountain Horse riding boots as they have different calf fittings (www.mountainhorse.se/ gives the calf measurements on the sizes page)

The 'High rider' style don't look like traditional dressage type and come in a wide fit. They are fantastic - I have a pair and they get a lot of compliments. They cost about 110 quid from www.tds-saddlers.com at the moment but are widely available in the UK. Mine are brown though most of the web pics are of the black type. The only thing is they are also for fairly wide feet - which is what I need (Duo much too narrow) but may not suit you?

Best of all they are really hard wearing. In my experience lots of pairs of boots from places like Evans collapse very quickly if you do anything reckless like ... oooh ... walk in them.

The Timberland ones do look splendid though - must find a reason to buy a pair!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/12/2006 20:22

evans do widefitting boots.

Will check out clarkes in the near future though.....

figgypud · 11/12/2006 20:48

OK mine are 42 cm

I got some red or dead ones that fit and are fab actually got them off ebay as schuh sell theirs off on there! You could go in a shop and try them first though!?

these were the ones I got

heres schuh store on ebay

{{{whispers}}} SHH don;t tell anyone though

danceswithreindeer · 12/12/2006 07:14

Thanks for all the brilliant suggestions you lot are a lurverly bunch Ok here's a quick update. I'm off to schuh this morning to try them on and if they fit I'm off to Jonesthebootmakers online to buy them as they are IN THE SALE!!!!! Hooray! Best news of all...my MIL is buying them for me for Christmas

Sorry, sure no-one else is interested in this but I'm really excited! I love having new shoes but hate shoe shopping because of my wide feet/calves problem.

YAY little lamb! Just what I wanted to hear

I LOVE those Wrangler Clover boots and was going to panic-buy some yesterday after the great chunky calf debate. However, I made the shocking mistake of emailing a pic to my hubby to get his opinion - and he said they looked like big floppy overpriced wellies .
Might get them anyway... I think they're fab!

Mumpbump · 14/12/2006 12:07

I have fairly chunky calves - never thought so until I bought my first pair of boots. I did find some at Jones (as someone else mentioned earlier) that fit and they have a sale on at the moment...
