SS officer, lol. What kind of boots were you trying em with? Did you have a hitler tash to complete the look?

xena · 10/12/2006 20:21

a ma women in the playground was wearing her normal jeans tucked into her heeled long boots - it did make me smile!

gingermonkey · 10/12/2006 20:21

middle aged is not necessarily the age but the look - you must know the type. You might be 25 and look middle aged and 40 look like a teenager. It's those middle aged types, the ones who are clinging on to their youth with both hands. You always see them out in town on a saturday nite, trying to drag a 20 sumthing lad home!!

lou33 · 10/12/2006 20:24

that will be me then

FrayedKnotRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 10/12/2006 20:25

I think they are a no-no on apple shaped women as they make you look diamond shaped which never helped anyone hide their tummy.

foxinsocks · 10/12/2006 20:27

lol lou

I think you have to have quite long legs for them to look good

my legs are def not my best feature and I look rubbish in skinny jeans - they also emphasise my rather tubby middle

gingermonkey · 10/12/2006 20:31

Long legs are a bonus, definately. I never know what apple shaped is - sounds a bit scarey! Is it just a polite way of saying fat?

gingermonkey · 10/12/2006 20:33

also, noones helping me with the high waisted jeans - opinions PLEASE!!!!

heavenlyghosty · 11/12/2006 08:21

High waisted jeans? Are they making a come back too then? [confused emoticon] Wasn't it only 5 minutes ago we were all wearing jeans up to our armpits?

heavenlyghosty · 11/12/2006 08:22

I've been on another planet for too long. Round here people are yet to put their last lot of high wasted drain pipes away ....

heavenlyghosty · 11/12/2006 08:23

"waisted"

NbgSparklyYellowFeathers · 11/12/2006 08:28

IMO, skinny jeans are ok. You dont have to be deathly thin or 15 to wear them. I'm 5 3 and a curvy size 10 and I think they look fine.

However I do think high waisted are for the skinny but I saw a picture of Kate Moss in them and thought they looked ghastly. You cant get much thinner than her.
Should be left on the catwalk those ones.

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 11/12/2006 08:29

I think there are all kinds of no-nos.

Apple shaped/top heavy (unless that comes in a size 8 or below) - a definite no.

Very big saddle bag thighs, whether thin or fat - no

Anything funny shaped about your legs - no

Short legs - no

Large bum - no

Apart from this, you should be fine.

gingermonkey · 11/12/2006 08:33

Yes, all manner of trousers with a high waist are coming back/are back amongst the trendier folk. Kate Moss (the goddess) had a pair of high waisted tight jeans on at the beginning of the season. I went out yesterday and a girl had black high waisted trousers on, they looked nice. I want to hate the jeans, I'm trying but don't seem able. I can't see how they could suit anyone, but the muffin top, cold back, knickers hanging out problem is solved with them. I am going to try some next time I am out shopping, I think I need to undertake this mission for all mners out there!!! hee hee hee....

heavenlyghosty · 11/12/2006 09:14

SURELY THESE SOUND TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

gingermonkey · 11/12/2006 09:30

that's my worry exactly!!! Aren't you in foreign lands, ghosty?

boogiewoogie · 11/12/2006 11:17

I was just about to post a thread about buying a new pair of jeans. Personally, I don't like them but that's because they look silly on me. I'm 27, 5ft 2". the topshop ones are far too low on the waist or hips even!

eggnog · 11/12/2006 11:31

I tried on every pair i could find inthe mall the other day and they all made my arse look weird. i am 5.6 and size 8-10. i rang my more fashionable friend and her opinion is to go for tightish normal jeans if you aren't kate moss/ elle macpherson. having said that, had lunch yesterday with friend and she looked fabulous in hers. but she has a bit of a jo lo bum and long thin legs so she gave hers some shape.....

hermykne · 11/12/2006 14:01

well i think the consensus is you need longish legs and and no thunder thighs!
i think you need a high rise on them too other wise the vision of an arse is just ugh.

my firend had a pair on saturday night those rock and republic ones (she paid 340?) madness, anyway i told her they made her legs look stumpy, shes 5/5, 35, bit of a belly and busty!
but they were like a pair of tights roundthe calves/ankles. she was not best pleased.

but lou you sound in fab shape!

i have my wobbly bits, but my legs and bum are ok luckily , plus i have a 33 inch inside leg which i guess helps with skinny jeans

achristmasshoop · 11/12/2006 14:15

I am 24, a size 8/10, and just under 5' and I wear them! My legs are 'quite chunky' at the top, so I wear a fairly long top and either stilettoes or knee high boots and I always get complemented.
My mum is 44, a size 8 and 5'2" she also wears them and looks fab in them!

lou33 · 11/12/2006 14:25

ok ,now i feel really old that i am closer in age to your mum ,instead of you lol

NOELallie · 11/12/2006 14:39

OK. I admit I don't really know what skinny jeans are? Please explain. Are they a specific style or just very tight ones?

I have some ancient straight jeans which are very comfortable and which I will not chuck away even though they are probably hideously unfashionable... I hate boot-cut jeans. I also have 2 pairs of flared jeans (recently) which are quite tight fitting on the upper leg. I think they all Ok but I may be kidding myself. I'm size 12 and 5'11' but 36" of that is leg. I think that helps.

gingermonkey · 11/12/2006 15:13

Tight jeans, like drainpipes (if you are over 30 then that's what you'll know them as!).

BrandyTutter · 11/12/2006 15:24

less to do with age/height imo - more to do with overall proportions

for example i am tall and have slim legs, so you might think i could manage it. but i have a wide torso (read: big tummy) hence look like a barrel on matchsticks if i attempt the skinny jeans look
