So can anyone recommend one? It's for going under a bridesmaid dress at a winter wedding while I'm standing next to 2 size 6's and an 8 (grrr - but they've not had kids, yet!) I've looked at the vollers ones and love them but are they worth the money?

I'm an M&S size 12 btw and 5'3" - HELP!

I imagine Rigby and Peller would be fabulous, if inordinately pricy.

You sure magic pants won't do the job? I mean, a size 12 at your height sounds gorgeously normal.

WonderCod · 09/12/2006 18:20

do not buy a corset
you seem fine to me
fgs
youl look odd

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 09/12/2006 18:21

In fact I'd invest in a push-up bra instead, which will distract nicely from the stick-insects.

GOOD ONe

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 09/12/2006 18:24

just think you will be bursting with health and perfect curves as they shiver like whippets next to you...

I've tried strapless bras - honest they just don't work on me - I'm a 32D and they NEED support! Oops just noticed I forgot to mention its a strapless bridesmaid dress, sorry.

Will look at rigby & peller though - I'm trying to see it as an investment - slightly perplexed at DH's distinct lack of enthusiasm though!

What about someone like Royce-Lingerie, they are an internet company. My sister used them when she grew out of even the largest high street sizes, apparently they do a fair bit of specialist stuff.

My tum is really a bum. Magic knickers my arse. What can I do? Gym and no carbs for a month? Top tips pls!

liquidclocks · 09/12/2006 19:34

Thanks chubbleigh - can't find any corsets etc on their site.

Tried Rigby and Peller too motherinferior but only the vollers ones.

Anyone out there actually own one? I had a debenhams one once that has been discontinued but it was stolen from my car - bet the thieves had fun opening that bag!

Yes, just had a look myself, just lots of big girls bras. Did see one or two sites where you can order on line made to measure, choose your own fabrics. The place my sister used was in Bristol if that is any good to you.

foxinsocks · 09/12/2006 19:41

M&S do a thing at the moment with a push up bra on top (and you can take the shoulder straps off) with a sort of slip attached that's sort of fitted iykwim - I'll see if I can find a pic. Might be a compromise.

LovelyKay · 09/12/2006 19:55

Hello, I have a Vollers corset and yes indeed they are worth the money. You won't look odd at all if you don't go mad and order down a hundred waist sizes ('training' for wasp waists - which is what some do - v Scarlet O'Hara).

The only thing that they might not work for is a strapless dress with a sort of snug pencil skirt. All the stuff being squeezed has to go down as well as up IYSWIM and so a fuller or flared skirt will look much better. A corset gives you a wonderful waist which is, more importantly stable. Those of you with wobbly bits will know exactly what I mean!

If you want something less industrial then Miss Mary of Sweden do a great and very firm basque with unbelievable uplift. And yes I have one of those too (am beginning to sound v pervy, oh dear). They're on the website but it's in Swedish. www.missmary.se/?action=catalog.Product&artNr=0345
May look like any other basque but believe me it is seriously strong! Your DH will have to help you get it on probably but it does look amazing.

Enjoy the wedding

LovelyKay · 09/12/2006 20:03

Forgot to say, the straps clip off the Miss Mary torsolette (which doesn't really show that well in the website pics) and they do D cup and larger sizes. Also comes in black (zwart) and white (vit) as well as a creamy colour. Not sure about the 32 though, but they are a great company and v helpful so well worth getting in touch. 600SKr is about £50 I think?
Cheers

liquidclocks · 09/12/2006 20:03

Thanks for that lovelykay - if you're still around do you mind me asking which vollers corset you have and whether it's at all painful to wear?

Chubbleigh - thanks but I'm up in the wilds of Lancashire! (hence no half decent lingerie shops )

Sorry can't remember any actual details (bought it a couple of years ago and a different size now anyway so it's a bit big and stays in the drawer) It's not uncomfortable as such - put it this way, I once fell asleep in it!
Oh dear, too much information, tmi....

liquidclocks · 09/12/2006 20:18

'Not uncomfortable as such' - , think I'm going to have to take the plunge and get one, try it on see!

Thanks for help everyone
