I have a January Wedding in North Scotland - would you be offended by my outfit choice

I have a wedding coming up in January, north of Inverness. Its likely to be snowing if previous years are anything to go by! It is in a castle, we will be staying there and its all likely to be inside.

I've been looking at these outfits and I like quite a few that are cardigan & skirt or fine rollneck over a dress.

It just doesn't look very 'wedding' - would I offend anyone? Look like I haven't made an effort? I wouldn't have anything on my head, perhaps a sparkly clip in my hair at most.

I guess I just don't know how to dress for a wedding in January and don't want to stick out.

But isn't the rollneck to be worn underneath? I have a couple of lined dresses that i wear in the summer and in the summer just add a thin rollneck and tights.
If you get the denier of the tights right with your shoes it can look good.
Well, I certainly wouldnt be offended by it!
Shoes, make up, hair and your jewellery show you've made an effort too.

I think a luxurious cardigan or cape is a good idea. But I would assume that the venue will be appropriately heated and so I would focus on buying a lovely dress.

I like the dress too, but srsly, not with the jumper. The neck line with that and the dress will be very weird.

Try for a long sleeved dress - you could go for velvet, which I love but is usually too hot. Or get a little cardi, cape or throw that you can slip on and off. If you're not going outside, you won't necessarily be cold? We do have heating in the far north.

Also when the ceilidh starts, you'll boil to death in a roll top jumper!

Depends on the castle! Is it a posh hotel? If so it will be warm, otherwise I wouldn't bank on it! Do check - it might be really quite chilly.

Lonny makes a very good point re the ceilidh. I think you need layers that are easily put on/taken off and I don't think that's a roll neck. If you know you are going to be inside all day then a dress plus fancy cardi/shrug/cape type thing might be best.

Definitely not with the rollneck underneath - they just don't go.

You'll be boiling. The heating will have been thought through to accommodate people in strappy evening dresses. Plus that jumper under that dress would look bizarre.

Beautiful dress and just right. Agree , no polo neck. A gorgeous cashmere or angora bolero that you can take off if heating racked up and log fires a burning navy bolero

A round-neck button-up cardi could go nicely though. Fifties style.

I'm in Scotland and have been to winter weddings in castles, and while they have been pretty chilly (even inside), no-one has turned up in a polo-neck jumper. I'd be more inclined to go for a dress with a sleeve and a faux fur jacket. Some properties have restrictions on how high the heating can go because of conservation, and I've also been at events where women guests were asked not to wear heels with metal tips because they would damage the floor.

13,15,19 22 and 23 ar all lovely. That pink furry coat from reiss is lovely in rl but expensive and bulky . the paisley warehouse maxi dress is the same pattern as I have in a blouse from warehouse and i love it. The skirt combos with cashmere from brora are nice too. Agree dont like the rollneck idea

I was worried from a not enough effort point of view but it seems I'm ok with a really top notch skirt and cashmere cardigan?

I'm tiny so don't think I could wear a fluffy jacket, I have to have very sleek fitted shapes otherwise I look like a little barrel.

Thanks for the advice, summer wedding glamour just doesn't fit in a castle in January!
