I'm bored of what I usually to wear. I love very clean, fresh, citrus based perfumes. In the past I've liked and worn Hermes Orangier Verte and Occitane Verveine (or is it Verbena?) but not loved them, as they don't have depth. I quite like Eau de Gucci and Eau de Givenchy but again only quite. Currently use Clarins Eau Ressourcante every day. But ideally I want a slightly stronger, more mature scent, more complex but still very fresh. Is there a fresh citrussy scent that has more complexity?

I can't stand fruity or sweet scents, and like some jasmine or rose based florals so long as they're not sweet. I'm fair haired and skinned, so really strong spicy stuff just doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Ooh some great ideas here. These are just my sort of scents - I'm wearing Eau Ressoursant today.

How about the Guerlain Acqua Allegoria range. Teazzura and Pamplelune are both lovely and a bit more grown up than ER.

Try the Byredo scents.

Try a couple from Penhaligons - Vaara is quince based, with some lovely soft spices in there too which makes it perfect for colder days or nighttime. It's not heavy but has a deep complexity which is really attractive.

Also try their Malabah. It has a bergamot top note which is really zingy but also has some floral in there (not sweet at all, I hate sweet florals) to give it some complexity.

I can't recommend the Nose website highly enough. Put your current favourites in there and they will recommend you others which are similar. You can then order ten sample sizes for a tenner.

Pretend, I couldn't get it to work :(. They wouldn't let me add the perfumes, just the brands for some reason. Will try again later.

Aedes de Venustas is a beautiful fresh perfume with a bit of depth to it.Its similar in freshness to Verveine scents but utilises Rhubarb ( very green) and tomato leaf with a very light touch of incense and Hazelnut for a bit of richness. It lasts all day but is very expensive .I buy 10 ml decants at a time.
Other fresh perfumes I enjoy in Winter are Gingery such as Nutmeg And Ginger ( Jo Malone) which is woody and spicy-fresh and not sweet at all.
Perhaps Fleurs de Citronnier or La fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens will suit. The first is slightly sweet but has a bit of heft for Winter and the second is a Fresh Peppery pure Red Rose. Finally Onde Sensuelle is a Fresh spicy Grapefruit by L Artisan Parfumeur.
Yes, Nose is also a brilliant idea

What about Diptyque? I have lots of their scents and Vetyverio and Tarocco are particularly fresh. Miller Harris has a set of three small Citrus scents. I have it but tend to use it in the Sumner. I'm loving the very uncitrussy Miller Harris l'air de Rien at the moment ( despite some of fragranticas worrying reviews!)

I like the kind of smells you describe and I adore Chanel Cristalle Eau Vert. It smells nothing like the other Chanels and has a green fresh sent I adore. It also lasts quite a long time. BUT it smells very different on different people so squirt it on your skin rather than relying on how it smells on a sample paper if you go and sniff it somewhere.

Bigger Boots stores have it, but also department stores.

MrsMolesworth · 23/11/2015 15:27

Some of these sound gorgeous. Had a few trials today. Liked the Chanel Cristalle Vert a lot but made stupid mistake of trying a Creed scent next to it which was only citrusy on top note and now I smelled like an old lady's poyt pourri, so will have to go back and retry the Chanel.

Some brilliant lists and ideas on this thread. By the way, if anyone loves Clarins Ressourcante, it's on offer in John Lewis today - the full size scent plus free make up bag, shower gel and body cream, all for £28.50. Today only. It's a price match with someone.
