Help please! I have several holes in my wardrobe, one of which is a coat

Or jacket, I really don't know what but I do know I need something! I have an ancient black Marella wool coat which really does need replacing but my lifestyle means I don't often wear it, so it wouldn't be a wise or economical purchase. I have a brown Barbour which is fine for spring but no heat for winter. A green down Ralph Lauren jacket with furry hood - short jacket, not bum covering. And an Aigle outdoor coat - warm, waterproof and bum-covering. iHowever, not only does the hood fall off (broken popper fastening) but a gentleman in a shop told me that he could tell I was from the country because of the way I was dressed Hmm. I will admit to feeling slightly miffed given I was wearing said Aigle jacket, skinny jeans, ankle boots, a Becksondersgaard scarf and LKB bag. Clearly not fashionable enough though!

So, still smarting nearly a year later, I need to fill the gap and purchase something a little more fashionable. It must be warm. I would like navy, I think. I am drawn to lower hip length padded jackets but don't like them with hoods, unless removable, refuse to buy something filled with polyester (ie Saw one in JL at a lazy £280 with polyester filling) and worry that style will add too many inches to my tummy which has become a bit rotund of late!

All suggestions welcome if anyone has the energy to make any!

Thank you!
