Just out of hair dresser-so sad - do I buy a box dye?!!

Hello, I've had my hair dyed and highlighted for the first time. I usually just have highlights, so have always had blonde hair. I loved the colour on top but wanted it like that all over so my hairdresser recommended dying it with a few highlights on top.
I've just come out and it's so dark-admittedly its lighter underneath but the top is auburn with very few highlights- I'm so sad it's so dark. My hairdresser said she'll correct it but I don't think I can wait until Tuesday and I really don't think a toner and a few more highlights will do the job. I'm not leaving the house and cancelling my plans. I just don't look like me.

Has anyone box dyed? I'm told it's worse for your hair than professional dyes but I've never done it or indeed used dye before, so have no experience. I can't look in the mirror. I know this sounds very self involved and over the top but I've always been so careful with my hair, knowing I'd feel like this if it ever went wrong. I want to be blonde again asap! Anyone had any experience?

You won't be able to make it lighter with a box dye without bleaching. I would wait and let them correct it for you

Wait and let the hairdresser do it. Toner makes a if difference. Just tie it back for 48 hours

Also - you'll find that the dye is darker for a few days until you've washed it a coue of times too

I foresee disaster. Let the hairdresser fix it.

It's a bit OTT to say you can't wait til Tuesday.

I use a box dye (light beige blond colour 9 something and 10 something -I have no idea what the numbers mean ) and highlight.
My hair is natural mid brown.
The dyes will take it to a ginger, which I like . The highlights do work , I have blond bits.

My hair is short though, so no more than 2-2.5" long. I don't have overlap because it'll get maybe 2 dyes between cutting.
I'd imagine my hair would be wrecked if it was longer.

Best to wait really

Thanks everyone. She's offered to tone it and put a few highlights around the front but I'm concerned a toner won't do enough and that it really needs re-dying! Also, having highlights on top of where previous highlights have been, I'm concerned it'll really damage my fine hair! I guess we'll see. If anyone knows pls let me know. Thanks!

Isn't there an option to strip out the colour?

RugbyWidow7 · 24/10/2015 20:59

It's not been mentioned as part of the free colour correction lorelei! I'm calming down about it now but still really dislike looking in the mirror!

Maybe hairdressers don't like using it
No personal experience but have seen it sold in a few places
