Help! I haven't been out in the evening for 10 years! What do I wear?

I haven't been out since I was at uni, and have no idea what's in fashion to wear to a bar. I'm 30 and a size 14. Can you help? I need everything including shoes and accessories!

What type of venue are you going to? Pub? Club? Restaurant?

Duggee · 08/10/2015 20:18

I'm going to a bar in shoreditch London. It's a restaurant that turns into a bar/club.

You can never go wrong in a pair of skinny jeans, heels and a nice top. Safe option!

IWantFairyWings · 08/10/2015 20:21

That's a relatively short OP, OP, and someone still failed to read it Grin

Are you looking for links or general advice? I would imagine you'll blend into the crowd anywhere in skinnies, heels and a fancy top (lace bits, sheer bits, or weird cut-out bits atm). Or maybe I've got no imagination!

IWantFairyWings · 08/10/2015 20:22

Jinx, Cheesybaps!

AnnaMarlowe · 08/10/2015 20:23

A dress. Heels.

Cheesybaps · 08/10/2015 20:33

To be honest Shoreditch is eclectic, you don't generally find people dressed to the nines like you would in the West End, for example. They are more interested in looking trendy than bling barbie doll (unless it's ironic Wink )

Depending on where you go, you'll see girls in dresses but maybe dressed down with grunger boots or cool trainers. Skinny jeans and oversized shirts or crop tops, fur coats. Anything goes really, wear what you feel comfortable in, and be confident. Smile

What kind of things do you normally wear?

Artandco · 08/10/2015 20:39

Agree with a dress, something nice but casual so you can wear again, and some low but comfy heels.

Duggee · 08/10/2015 21:07

Thank you. I normally wear skinny jeans so that sounds like a safe option! Have you any links to tops and heels? Again not worn heels for years so will have to practise haha!

With a statement necklace and leather jacket? I'm 23 with two dc and that's what I would wear!!

BabyGanoush · 09/10/2015 06:59

I am 43, and also feel happy in skinnies, heels (or heeled ankle boots), loose fitting silky top bad fitted leather jacket Grin

I always feel a bit "Daily mail reader" in a dress, unless partnered with chunky boots to balance the tweeness

BabyGanoush · 09/10/2015 07:00

Not bad fitted, AND fitted

Nobody wants a bad fitted jacket Grin

Wishful80smontage · 09/10/2015 07:05

I think skinny jeans and heels are way to go.
If you're like me and can't actually do heels very well- I go for wedges still dressy but soooooooo much easier to walk in. Or Dune do lovely mid-heels that are fab.
Statement necklace and nice clutch bag.
Whats your usual hair/make up style?
Also whats the night for date/bday other?

Notoedike · 09/10/2015 07:50

I wouldn't do dress and heels - maybe dress and trainers or Blundstone boots otherwise you'll feel over dressed. Jeans and heels with a nice top will work - if you can wear heels - I can't unless we are door to door taxi. Good make up and hair. I think silk button up shirts look great with jeans.

Duggee · 09/10/2015 08:05

I did think why a bad fitted jacket! I thought you meant oversized! Thanks so much for the help!
