Black leggings

I've bought some black leggings, ankle length, but I'm a little afraid to wear them. I'm slim enough, size 8, but not sure that I'm young enough, 28.

My other concern is the crotch area . Can you only wear them with a top that covers the crotch? Or is there a way to wear them with a shorter top without giving away tmi iyswim? I pulled them down slightly at the crotch but I wasn't sure they would stay like like that. Can't decide if I should wear them out tonight or stick with a safe but less trendy dress.

Ah, have just realised that my Christmas name is too long. I'm LaDiDaDi really .

I'd wear a longer top or dress over them. What are you wearing on your feet???

mousiemousie · 02/12/2006 11:23

Look best worn under skirts and dresses - well dodgy with exposed crotch IMO

princessJINGLEmelS · 02/12/2006 11:38

Or over a mini skirt.

I have some lovely shoes with a little heel and peep toes.

Very nice shoes .

paddingtonbear1 · 02/12/2006 21:17

well I'm 38 and I wear them - with a dress (knee length or just above), or a long tunic style top. And ballet pumps!

FastAndLouche · 02/12/2006 21:20

im with mousie on this one - not right without a long top or dress over...

gingermonkey · 07/12/2006 19:20

I live in mine! They are so much better than tights (keep you much warmer). I had mine on today with a knitted dress, and ankle boots (am I fashion victim???). They look great with dresses that are a bit too short to wear tights with, but not so short that you can see your breakfast, and long tops. Tho I think i'm too old for long tops doubling as dresses (31) and I'm tall (5'10")so long tops on a shorter person are crop tops on me . But they need to be cotton ones, not footless tights. I think only the kids can get away with those or those really nasty silver or gold ones they sell in american apparel - metallic legs are the scariest things I have seen in a long time. They have a website, google american apparel to find it and laugh away. Even the stick thin models look like they have sausages for legs! pmsl

I've been looking for some all week and cant find any anywhere - they are all sold out.

Anyone know where i can buy a decent quality pair of ankle length ones in black? I want to wear them with knee length boots and a long top/dress.

ameli · 07/12/2006 21:43

i think they are hideous, personally cant see the appeal and think they are very unattractive. I went shopping with friend who told ne to get some as i can carry off anything being a size 6...but even i have my limits and refuse to jump on the fashion band wagon. I am 28 and i like to wear what i feel good in not and leggings make me cringe.

gingermonkey · 08/12/2006 21:02

I can see your point ameli, but each to their own. I think you can get it very wrong with them, but that goes with everything, doesn't it? Fashion mags have a lot to answer for when white trash is trying to pull off high fashion on a primark budget!!!!! I could rant all night about my pet hates (biggest one is mums in low cut tops and low slung jeans, all the bending over we do to pick up our babies - there is no need to share sagging tits, arse crack with g-string and back fat with the world!) Mullingitover, have you tried ebay? When all else fails you can usually count on it! Search for cotton dance leggings and you should be able to find some. A decent make is tappers and pointers, if you have a local ballet/tap shop they should have some also. Hope that helps you x x

... I saw some girls wearing leggings under mini skirts yesterday and thought WTF????
I am in NZ so we get things a wee bit later
So, it's official then? This is what we will be wearing next winter?

anemone · 09/12/2006 09:53

Got a black ankle-length pair in Top Shop, and the quality is OK - quite thick, visible seam so it's defo not a pair of tights.
I'm (ahem) a bit lardy and looking 40 in the face so I wore them discreetly under a knee-length wrap dress with boots.

crunchie · 09/12/2006 22:00

Actually reading back that post which I did at nearly 2am last night, you can tell I had a glass or two can't you!!

But no SS I wore black sequin round toes stilettos as I also went out on Thursday night and wore the red then!!

You see that outfit has been dong the rounds, 1st the MN night out, then our works local event (bog back tie number next w/e) then another mums night out last night. But since those red shoes have even done the school run (I love them THAT much) I decided the black ones would make a chnage

I will look at he camping thread I am up for it, but not got round to posting IYKWIM

My rule of thumb is, if you wore them first time around, you're too old to the second as everyone will think you haven't changed your look for twenty yrs. Also, sadly, am big on top, so long top plus stick legs make me look like a lollipop - in fact they did even in the 80's when I was flatter and thinner. And I can't help remembering Maureen Lipman's demolition of them on Room 101.

gingermonkey · 10/12/2006 09:30

No heavenly ghosty, the beauty of leggings is that they are a year round thing (ok maybe you get it a little warmer there than us Brits). So in the summer we can wear those short skirts that we couldn't usually get away with without wearing something underneath. (unless we work the streets part time!)And, as all mums know, when we finally get a night out it only takes a glass of cheap wine to get us a bit tipsy...when we fall over in a dress and leggings, noone can see our knickers! Hoorah! Nearlythree, I remember Maureen Lipman on room 101! She could kill a trend tho, whatever it was - she's not blessed with natural style! You must have my share of boobs too - could I have them back please...?
