so, what do we think about ponchos?

I am 28 weeks pregnant and cold! Don't have a maternity jumper or anything but saw some supposedly authentic South American ponchos for £18 today at the market [)

Naff or OK?

(the last time I wore a poncho was in about 1974... )

I personally don't like them, think they are naffola. Could you get a big snuggly jumper instead?

WigWamBam · 01/12/2006 14:19

Lovely on 5 year olds, don't like them on adults though.

MagicGenie · 01/12/2006 14:20

Tommy, ponchos came back 'in' in winter 04 when I was pregnant with DS (well, they did where I lived!)

That poncho was fantastic. It cost me £35/£40 from M&S, I wore it loads (with a maternity cardi underneath), and it kept me and my bump lovely and warm.

I'd say go for it!

JackieNoHoHo · 01/12/2006 14:20

I'm not convinced, tbh, but I did think when they came back in that they looked brilliant for breastfeeding under when out and about.

Tommy · 01/12/2006 14:29

I'm not convinced either and did look at the snuggly jumpers as well which are more "me" anyway IYSWIM but I thought a poncho could be worn more like a coat

will have to have another think and ask around as well - thanks so far

I like the wrappy shawl things that aren't quite ponchos - one size fits all, including bump!
this kind of thing}. Tie Rack normally have them...

Tommy · 01/12/2006 16:11

actually MrsB - that's more like what I saw at the market.

what is that called then?! (I'm not often found in the style section -can you tell?!)

there are a few cardis/jackets around atm that are sort of flared out

this kind of thing

BrandyTutter · 01/12/2006 16:14

i have this which flarier than it looks here

hoping it will do me til the very late stages of pgcy

incy · 01/12/2006 16:19

They have some of the wrappy shawl things Mrs B mentions in accessorise and John lewis

MrsBadger · 01/12/2006 16:25

Tutter this one is cool too, and I have it on good authority (link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2350&threadid=237774#4797167\here}) that this looks much better in real life than in the pic (good thing too).

Not sure what the proper name for the wrappy things is - have seen them called 'serapes' before, but also just 'large shawls' or 'wraps'. I thought you meant a poncho like this , which is genuinely ghastly.
I think if it's plain and not frilled or bobbled or anything a big wrap thing is a v good idea for with-bump warmth.

MrsBadger · 01/12/2006 16:26

good authority here , even.

Tommy · 01/12/2006 18:29

MrsB - no they weren't like that at all!!

more wrappy I would say
