Am I supposed to match my handbag to my shoe colour??

I wear darkish brown boots 70% of the time, sometimes black sometimes mid tan boots / shoes but mostly my Timberland brown ankle boot.

I need a new hand bag, for day to day school run etc Ive decided another cross body makes sense, I just cannot see myself doing the crook of arm hold on a day to day basis... tho I might also get a 'going out to dinner' bag I haven't decided.

Would it be okay to have a dark tan bag?? I need a new purse too, I'm leaning toward one in the same range in the same colour as cross body bag... is that too matchy matchy?? In general I tend to coordinate / match, definitely not quirky in style habits, pretty conservative all round really lol

This is the bag I'm debating, opinions / suggestions welcome... www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_63238+B153OT_-1

I think being too matched is a bit passe but maybe that's just me. I like the bag - I have something similar bought from White Stuff I think

it was a retro thing for a very brief time- now gone away.

Brown bag with brown shoes is perfectly acceptable (likewise with black) all other coloyr matches should be avoided for fear of looking mother of bride circa 1992

I always get olive green handbags as I have a weird thing about not wearing black and brown together so they go with brown, black, grey and tan boots and shoes

The Queen always matches shoes and handbag. Not sure if that adds anything to the conversation really.

I always think not completely matched colour wise - but matched tone wise.

verenti · 24/09/2015 16:57

You can match but you don't have to.

Openup41 · 24/09/2015 17:25

No. I think it looks too matchy, match. Mix it up a bit.

Openup41 · 24/09/2015 17:25

I meant matchy, matchy!

burnishedsilver · 24/09/2015 17:34

Theres no 'supposed to'. Whats in keeps changing. The matching idea has been out for a while but I read in a magazine in the hairdressers that matching is back. Do whatever looks right to you.

Do exactly what you want to do. If you like it, wear it. Sometimes my shoes and bag match. Sometimes they don't. That's just how I roll.

Doobigetta · 24/09/2015 19:59

Black shoes and black bag- fine
Brown shoes and brown bag- fine even if different shades
Coloured shoes and different coloured bag- fine as long as blending not clashing
Exactly the same coloured shoes and bag- best avoided as looks too try-hard
Black shoes and brown bag, or vice versa- NO!
