...early 40s, relatively clueless fashion wise but not given up the ghost yet ? Grin
Am size 10/12 and fairly slim, average height, easy enough to "dress".
Have incredibly rare (think twice in 7 years) combo of child free day and money to spend at shops - what do I get?!
I know the logic of buying good quality expensive staples but it might break my heart to come home with just 1 thing for my £100!
Summer wardrobe has mainly been trainers or converse with jeans or gap khakis.
I'm thinking winter basics might be...
A parka type jacket?
Thick tights to wear with jersey dresses? Have ordered Chelsea boots and have high hopes for them..
Some black skinnies?
Soft/baggy-ish jumpers for layering - I like charcoal is that boring?
Would really welcome some pointers !

Thick tights that go well with the boots plus a coat or decent knitwear would be good. What colours suit you?

Missanneshirley · 24/09/2015 08:21

Now that is the sort of thing sort of thing I truly don't know! I am fair skinned and light hair so tend to go greys, browns, plums...,not sure if they suit! I'd love a new coat - have a big duvet one for the proper cold but def missing smart warm jacket

A decent coat will be your best bet since you'll wear it every day (tights can be thrown into the trolley at the supermarket so that you don't notice the cost too much)

Ooh I love that second one! 1st one a bit pricey. Hadn't seen that website before either so thank you for that!

OK coats. ...it does sound sensible!!

I've just bought black super skinny jeans from New Look and they are fab and £20.

I would be tempted if I had a small budget and wanted to get a few flexible things to look at Ines de la Fressange at uniqlo

I think it would actually be better to buy knitwear in a colour like charcoal as it will be less obvious if you wear it to death. Again I think uniqlo could be your friend. Unless you're in London would have to be online though.

For tights I'd look for wolford or falke in tk maxx, can often be picked up for £5 a pair and unlike supermarket tights have amazing longevity.

My preference for high street jeans is top shop. Not the cheapest but less cheap looking and more choice than Dorothy Perkins, next etc.

Thank you! I have a few things already from uniqlo and really like them - just basics, but will investigate that new range thank you! Has to be online I am miles out in the sticks!
Top shop was also recommended to me for coats - am I not too old for top shop now or is it still possible to find stuff there?
Good shout re the tk maxx rights thank you. I do really like the whole tights and boots thing in the enter
