If someone tells you you're beautiful.....

Do you believe them? If your DH or DP tells you that you look gorgeous in that (insert relevant attire), do you get a little lift and believe them, or do you still look in the mirror and think "Ack, I look like a gigantic sausage pretending to be human"?

Ah Love what a shit head to say that to you Flowers, bet he was a real oil painting...similar situation here an angry cyclist called me a fat fxxking whore a few weeks ago. (Ive lost 2 stone already but have a bit more to goSad, wasn't the better of it for a few days (sniffles).
Custard my dh never volunteers the compliments, I kinda have to dig for them, so they don't really count do they Confused

LoveArtDeco · 15/09/2015 20:40

Who does that though? Goes up to a complete stranger in the street and tell them they're beautiful? Mind you the same could be said for the nasty bloke in tescos. Who does that?! And why?!

Doobigetta · 15/09/2015 20:44

Yes, and I smile and say thank you.

What used to make me laugh was when men said "has anyone ever told you you're beautiful?" As if I were so ugly it had never even occurred to anyone else to say that in an attempt to get me into bed, and so naive and/or desperate that I'd fall for it.

ShouldHavenotOf · 15/09/2015 20:46

In the interest of balance - I was with my friend at a station in Sydney going through ticketty bit.

Woman guard squawked at my friend, 'Look at you!! Look at your beautiful face!' and went on and on.

She completely ignored me.

LoveArtDeco · 15/09/2015 20:46

Someone told me I had nice legs once, back in the mists of time.

MmeGuillotine · 15/09/2015 20:47

I have never in all my life been told that I am beautiful. I think I would feel really awkward and disbelieving if someone did.

I HAVE however had a man gesture me over to his car and then inform me that I was the ugliest woman that he had ever seen. I believed him.

Flambola · 15/09/2015 20:56

What a fucking cunt, Mme.

My DH tells me I'm beautiful all the time and I never believe him. Well, I believe he thinks it, but I'm not beautiful.

LoveArtDeco · 15/09/2015 20:59

Ugh MmeGuillotine some people are just cunts aren't they?

As I get older I find myself thinking why on earth would you think I give a shit what you think of the way I look? I should remember to actually say it next time!

KatyS36 · 15/09/2015 20:59

I got wolf whistled the other day (in a non threatening way). I was quite pleased :)

Katy (now 43)

MmeGuillotine · 15/09/2015 21:31

Such a cunt. And such arrogance too, to think that I'd actually want to hear his dismal fucking opinion. I thought he was beckoning me over to ask me for directions so had my smiley helpful face on when he did it too. The wanker. Ah well!

ArialBold · 15/09/2015 21:36

Gosh, there are some truly horrible men out there. Nasty!

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/09/2015 21:37

I never know. I don't think I'm beautiful and certainly not pretty, but I do think I'm stylish, quite attractive, and fairly striking. I know the thing is to say, oh, thank you, but I'm more inclined to think, what, I look knackered! I often have people come up to me in shops/the street and say they like my hair, but I think that's more of a compliment to my hairdresser.

Notoedike · 15/09/2015 21:40

If it's dh i do, anyone else - nope!

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/09/2015 21:41

Oh, and I will never, ever forget the time a man (who was a bit drunk) spent an entire bus journey telling me loudly how disgusting my skin was, how revolting I looked, and that no man would ever touch me because they'd be afraid of catching acne from me. I was in my early 20s and my confidence was already shot because of my spots. Almost 20 years on, it still amazes me that no-one on the bus, which was standing room only, told him to shut up - I always intervene if I see another woman being harassed.

squoosh · 15/09/2015 21:59

I'm shocked at the amount of utter cunts described on this thread who've gone out of their way to hurt a stranger's feelings.

They are clearly inadequate dicks who are so filled with self loathing that they try to siphon it off on to a passing stranger.

Fuck the rancid lot of them. I wish incurable cystitis of the burniest variety on anyone who acts like this.

squoosh · 15/09/2015 22:01

a young guy stopped me and said he just wanted to tell me how beautiful I was and he hoped I had a really nice time at the festival.

DP said he was probably on mushrooms.

I did Grin at that!

TRexingInAsda · 15/09/2015 22:16

LoveArtDeco That sounds like my internal voice, sometimes when I'm alone I say that kind of thing out loud to myself - I don't mean it, it's just a weird thing, like tourettes. I'm sure he didn't mean you, if he meant anything he was probably talking to himself.

If someone tells me I look nice it does give me a boost - especially if it's my kids because I love that they see the beautiful in everything, and I love that they kind of learn what's beautiful from me at this age, not from tv or magazines (yet)! I like it when DH says it because I trust that he means it and I like to be beautiful to him. I like it when my friends say it because I know they mean 'I love you/I'm happy to see you/I want to make you smile/you're a beautiful sight to me'.

MaisieDotes · 15/09/2015 22:18

MmeGuillotine what a fucking dick! Angry

And what was he even talking about, the idiot. I've seen your photo (were you in Buckingham palace or something?) and you are very pretty and very cool .

ImperialBlether · 15/09/2015 22:26

He was saying that to be cruel, MmeGuillotine - as Maisie says, you look really pretty and really cool.

These tossers who say things like that to people they don't even know are just disgusting.

Cerseithequeen · 15/09/2015 22:28

...I reply..."I know!"Wink

TRexingInAsda · 15/09/2015 22:28

Squoosh That made me laugh a bit because I actually have incurable cystitis!! (Well, interstitial cystitis - it's recurring rather than constant but it is horrible). I hope it wasn't wished on me! When other people are around I do manage to keep the internal voices internal, they tend to come out of my mouth when I'm alone - in the shower, for example - and especially when I'm stressed, otherwise I can usually keep it in. Hopefully nobody has ever heard me say anything like that. I'd be beyond fucking mortified if they thought I was talking to/about them.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/09/2015 22:36

no, not really and i've only been told i am twice in my life. i'm really sort of plain, prettyish if i make the effort but i am genuinely not beautiful on the outside. i'd be happy to think i am on the inside though Smile

squoosh · 15/09/2015 23:10

Oh sorry Trex! That sounds hellish.

I wish I could take it from you and give it to those who deserve it!

TRexingInAsda · 15/09/2015 23:36

Aw, thank you!

MmeGuillotine · 16/09/2015 09:21

Bless your hearts, Maisie and Imperial! I have REALLY low self esteem so was pretty crushed! I mean, I think I'm pretty ugly but you don't expect random strangers to comment on it! :/

It probably goes without saying that he wasn't exactly Tom Hardy himself doesn't it?
