What should I wear as a guest to a registry office wedding?

A friend of mine had a large wedding overseas, they are also having a small registry office wedding too. What should I wear?

I have already been to 6 weddings this summer so am totally fed up of wearing a floral dress and heels. Can I get away with smart black, skinny jeans, a nice top, smart blazer and wedges?

B&G have said "smart casual" but I also hear mother of the bride will be wearing a dress. Don't want to be under or over dressed. I'm not part of the wedding party either

Thank you!

The fact you've been to 6 weddings is irrelevant to the B&G as this is hopefully their first & only wedding.

They have already had a large overseas wedding which I went to, this is far less formal - hence asking if smart jeans would be too casual

I think, as long as you're smart, anything goes at a register office.

I would veer more towards casual as I wouldn't want to look over-dressed.

I'd wear black jeans to a "smart casual" do. Your planned outfit sounds absolutely fine.

Your outfit sounds absolutely fine

I had a registry office wedding and told guests they could wear what they wanted. Some wore dresses, others smart trousers/tops. I think your outfit sounds lovely.

Savagebeauty · 05/09/2015 07:51

Yes. That sounds fine..I avoid weddings as I hate "occasionwear" but your outfit is the sort of thing I would feel comfortable in.
I look like a transvestite in a dress.

There's no way I would wear jeans to any wedding, no matter how smart the jeans and regardless of the fact it's a registry office. Can you not wear cigarette pants/trousers instead?

Dowser · 05/09/2015 08:57

I can't understand what's wrong with a nice dress. You are used to wearing them for the other weddings so sounds like you have 1 or 2 to choose from. Jeans are ok for the night do but I can't see how a dress looks too overdressed.

Sorry but I don't put jeans of any kind into the smart casual category...

BertrandRussell · 05/09/2015 08:59

I don t think you can wear jeans to a wedding, can you?

Queenbean · 05/09/2015 09:52

Thanks all for your input, I am indeed wearing skinny black jeans and on the way to the ceremony now.

We had a message from the B&G this morning to say that given how much it's raining, they're going for more casual and we were welcome to as well.

So I'm wearing the outfit above. Usually, I agree that I'd go for something much more formal, but given that we already had the wedding last weekend and everyone was dressed up for that and what the B&G are wearing I feel comfortable wearing this

Thanks for input!
