Has anyone seen any really warm, waterproof or very water resistant, bum-covering coats for a 7yo and/or a 3yo? Bright colours preferred.

I need something proper this year, so looking at camping shops rather than Zara IYSWIM...

Any ideas?

I wouldn't recommend the muddy puddles parkas. I bought them last year and they were a bit shit. I bought a Polarn O pyret jacket the year before and it was excellent. I did buy the muddy puddles parkas in the sale so I can't really complain.

This year I've just bought Trespass coats so we shall see how they fair in the lovely Scottish howling rain and gales.

The girls say they feel really warm and snuggly. The one for ages 7-8 measures about 67-68ish cms from the collar to the hem ( measuring on the back ) and the 5-6 yrs measures about 64cms to the hem. Hope that makes sense. I can take a couple of pics of the girls wearing them tomorrow if you'd like Tethers The hood really fits round their heads well too - not too baggy and flappy if that makes sense! HTH Smile

Thanks bobkate Smile

What about vertbaudet? I haven't looked this year yet but they often do a decent selection...

PO.P coats are he bees knees. Not as long as you would like, but definitely below hips, and longer at the back. Totally weatherproof, with hoods that stay up even in howling gales. And bloody good quality, and decent sizing.

Dd1 had one for 3 years (accidentally bought it big, as coats always cMe up small on her) and it still looked brand new, despite several washes and everything dd1 threw at it. It would have been fine for dd2 had I not lost it

I replaced, and dd1 had that one for 2 years, now passed onto dd2 (and will be ok for ds in turn). Expensive, but definitely a worthwhile investment.

Didrikson do really good quality kid's coats. I got one in the sales for under £30 and they have the bum covering longer backs on them. They also have reflective strips all over them and stitches inside the sleeves which can be cut out to make the arms longer so the coats grow with them. Very very warm too.
