I've just bought the Janelle coat from Seasalt on a whim. Please tell me it was the right decision!

I must be mad but I just bought the Janelle coat on a whim. Today felt like Autumn and well, I started thinking about the cold weather creeping in.

I am 5'9 so I think I'm tall enough for it (seems very long) and I walk the school run and bus it to work so i am always exposed to the weather. Plus I really feel the cold. Tell me i won't regret it Blush

I'm 5ft 5 and the Janelle is long on me. It gives the effect of being longer because of the dipped hem/fishtail at the back.

FallingGoldfinch · 07/10/2015 21:34

I don't think I have a Janelle then mrslebon - it does sound totally different to everyone else's. It can't be pulled in at the waist for one thing - there are a couple of press studs to make it a tiny bit narrower, but it is still huge. I'm a 12/14, ordered a 12 as I wanted to not let any cold air in, and I reckon I'd need to go down two sizes Sad. And it is most definitely Frumpsville. I wonder if I should try again? I didn't order from Seasalt as their discount had finished; maybe I should . . .

This is what I have but I have it in mole with a sort of neon yellow trim:

And now you come to mention it, it does have press studs at the sides to pull it in.

Eeek, sounds like you have the right coat but you think it's frumpy! But also strange that it is so big. I saw a woman wearing one in Waitrose today (where else?) and it was a pretty neat fit on her too. Mine was bought last year so perhaps they've changed the sizing?

threefrazzled

I'm petite and this is a good length and fit. It's not too bulky. Needs a fleece underneath if it's really freezing but the rest of the time it's warm, waterproof and windproof. It has a drawstring to pull in the waist, isn't too long but bum covers and the fur trim on the hood zips off

Thanks I'll take a look at the link and a better look at Seasalt.

I have a ridiculously outdoorsy toddler and no tolerance for cold. Bad combination!

CherryPicking · 08/10/2015 22:29

I think it'd be alright if you tend to wear heels. I do feel frumpy in mine though. So practical I can't bear to see it go though

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 10/10/2015 18:03

I've tried on the Northstar from Seasalt and I really like it but I'm worried it won't be warm enough.

Does anyone have it? Is it warm? It feels very thin.

nothingwittyhere · 10/10/2015 18:23

I've got one, have always found it warm, in fact I haven't got it out yet this year as I think it would be too warm at the moment!

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 10/10/2015 18:47

Would it do you in snow Nothingwitty or do you have a bigger coat for deepest winter?

nothingwittyhere · 11/10/2015 18:57

It was fine in the snow, I'm in Yorkshire so need a decent coat Smile

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 11/10/2015 19:37

Thanks nothing, I'm in Greater Manchester but, as I said, I'm soft!

Pigeonpost · 11/10/2015 22:13

I have a Northstar and find it adequately toasty. I also have a lovely yellow Sea Folly which isn't toasty at all but it serves a different purpose, more of an everyday Spring/ Autumn coat. I also have a Joules rain Mac for when I need dry but not warm and a Boden Rainy Day Mac for when I need erm, a longer mac with big flowery patterns....

whitewineandchocolate · 12/10/2015 19:40

I have a Northstar and find it lovely and warm unless it is freezing type weather. Prefer it to some of Seasalts other coats because it's shorter, and I'm 5ft 5in so not exactly small.

ByWiseStork · 22/12/2025 03:52

It comes in petite, regular or long.

Rockchick1984 · 04/10/2015 19:57

Amethyst do you still have the 20% code? I'm debating a coat but the discount would be enough to convince me Grin

Did you all know there’s an official seasalt outlet on eBay? Not sure if they are returns or last years stock but a lot of coats are £100 off RRP and in perfect condition. I just bought my second coverak. I sized up as I wanted to wear a jumper underneath.

Sesma · 22/12/2025 07:00

I'm 5'10 and have a Janelle, Plant Hunter and the big puffa one, I buy the tall ones as I have long arms. I also have a Seasalt summer style coat which they don't seem to make anymore. I struggle to get coats to fit because although I'm not overly tall I have long thinnish arms that look silly in too short sleeves

Sesma · 22/12/2025 07:01

And I also recommend the Seasalt outlet on eBay mentioned above

Sesma · 22/12/2025 07:05

Oh gosh, just seen thread was ten years old, I hope OP enjoyed her coat.
