Three years to (not) find a nightie

I have been looking for a white/cream/ivory, T-shirt style nightdress/nightshirt in cotton/cotton jersey or linen, no or minimal trimmings, no images at all especially no teddybears, short/cap sleeves, just above knee length.

For three years I have not been able to find such a thing. I have looked in every shop that I can think of and have seen nightwear of every possible colour, fabric and texture, some positively crackling with static on the hanger, with a range of logos/slogans varying from slightly icky to positively distasteful, with sleeves too long or flimsy spaghetti straps, that are voluminous beyond belief or long enough to knot round your legs and cause you to fall on your face when getting out of bed. Nicer ones are in the right type of fabric or the right length but unfortunately have (e.g.) blue stripes.

Why can I not find a nice plain nightie?

White Company have a couple of white ones in atm. What are you looking to spend?

Naicecuppatea · 26/08/2015 14:32

I am looking for the exact same, a short sleeved and long sleeved version, knee length. No help I'm afraid. It's hard enough to find a cotton one these days let alone plain!

Naicecuppatea · 26/08/2015 14:52

I can't see any in the White Company.

wanderingwondering · 26/08/2015 15:06

I had a plain grey cotton one from primark a few years ago. Any chance they'd have one the right colour?

Barabajagal · 26/08/2015 15:07

Nightdress

Bugger. Missed the bit about short capped sleeves. Would have been great otherwise.

Try going on Shopstyle and searching for white / cream t shirt dresses, a quick search came up with this www.asos.com/Noisy-May/Noisy-May-Harry-Hi-Lo-T-Shirt-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=5614692&affid=10607&transaction_id=102d8c0b832176c0b4867650c12702&pubref=1023

You are right, nightwear manufacturers seem to have a horror of anything plain.

I have this one from M&S: Grey and white stripes
It feels lovely to wear.

BumWad · 26/08/2015 17:09

Just out of curiousity why are you looking for such a specific nighty?

Pipbin · 26/08/2015 17:12

Good lord. £70 for a nightie! I hope that includes the sexual partner of ones choice and a cup of tea afterwards.

Pipbin · 26/08/2015 17:17

This has a little flummery www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_151010536980_-1

Check out Lands End. They have some pretty simple t shirt type nightdresses. All out of cotton. Can't link on iPad. Sorry.

AlisonWunderland · 26/08/2015 17:25

I agree.
As a fifty forty-something year old adult woman, I don't want to go to bed wearing a nightie with a teddy or a kitten on it

borntobequiet · 27/08/2015 09:02

Thanks everybody, some very good suggestions - best is the Harrods' one, but unfortunately way over my budget...I'll keep looking, hopefully not for another 3 years...
BumWad, I'm not so much specifying what I like as avoiding what I find uncomfortable (long sleeves) or don't like (pictures/logos). Pipbin, I do sleep "in the nip"??? (like it) much of the time, but like to have a nightie eg when travelling, when chilly, when eating breakfast in bed.

Sorry Violet, the ASOS one great! Don't know how I missed the link. May well get it. Many thanks.
