Practical boots but stylish too?

I'm after some boots to wear with jeans that I can wear eg going to watch ds1 play rugby, that look ok in the clubhouse after. Or a walk on the beach / through the woods, which look ok at the pub at the end of the walk.

We're currently on a self catering holiday, and thanks to a turn in the weather, I have no appropriate footwear, which made me realise I have nothing at home I could have packed had the weather forecast actually been right and predicted it was going to be colder than ballet shoes / sandals!

Any suggestions most welcome as I have no idea where to shop for practical but stylish! (I'm thinking flatish and mid calf? Heels won't work as am still out with the pram with dc3 every day).

waffly re my idea of stylish, the prompt for me starting this thread was being away last week, variable weather and thinking I needed good footwear which didn't make me feel like a frump in the bar, straight after a walk on the beach.

Whilst feeding dc3, I looked for some boots, saw some fairly nondescript, plain black leather ones on Clarks website. When I read the reviews they were written by ladies called Doreen, Christine, Pauline, Margaret and deidre. One lady said how good the online service was as she had reduced mobility. So I felt my choice of boot was possibly aimed at a slightly different group to the image I would like to portray. Absolutely nothing wrong with those names and no offence intended by the way.

Thought it might be helpful to have some different styles suggested to me Grin

I am probably looking for the holy grail of boot though. I only have budget for one pair for the winter and was after something that does the walks, school run, shopping, country pub [sigh]. Ideally go well with skinny jeans, straight leg and leggings. (Now somebody will come and shoot me down for my choice of clothes too...)

I hope you don't think I'm hijacking, but I'm in a similar position and am torn between Fly Solv, Fly Mol and DM Viola. Anyone had any of these? I wear my boots with jeans, leggings and tunics/dresses or tights and skirts/dresses.

Fly Mol

Fly Solv

Viola

Surfdome have 20% off a £60+ spend (with 8% back through topcashback) but Amazon prices seem to be marginally better.

FrancesOldhamKelseyRIP · 30/08/2015 16:14

I've got Fly Mol I think I paid about eighty quid last year and I like but don't love them. The MN word of mouth is that they're not great quality - I haven't worn mine enough to tell.

LucyLocketLostHerPocket · 30/08/2015 16:28

Ugg Noiras, I live in them come autumn. Waterproof, toasty warm and easy to clean. I just stick mine under the tap to wash mud off. Mine will be on their third autumn/winter this year and look new.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 30/08/2015 16:46

Have to say I was disappointed with Fly. They aren't my kinda thing as they're a bit fugly generally but I bought some of their wedged pumps once. The leather stretches more than any other I've had to be honest, they were hanging off after a while, and the rubber sole worn through quickly (quicker than usual on me), they also leaked water in

Bronx

I've taken a chance and ordered these. If they are no good I'll return them and go real life shopping.

Cocolepew · 30/08/2015 17:44

I like Fly but they aren't waterproof.

Why do we always have to choose? Why is it when companies make attractive shoes they think ah, fuck the quality, the comfort the practicalities of actually wearing a shoe. And why do companies that make more appropriate shoes think that the only people who are interested in having a comfortable practical shoe which actually fits our half size or wide or narrow feet suddenly don't give a shit what they look like?

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 30/08/2015 20:07

I've often wondered the same waffle. That said, there are stylish/fashionable practical things out there just not many and not the cheapest. Also much lesser known! I spotted an article yesterday road testing fashionable high heeled rain and snowproof ankle boots! The ones I ordered were the plainest most toned down tbh

It's a huge thing with coats as well, that's one that really gets me. It's not that hard to design and make a warm, waterproof coat that doesn't make you look like the Michelin Man, old biddy or school kid, surely? But equally, I always find it odd and humorous when people ask for a stylish version of whatever item and are then bombarded with things that would never be classified as stylish in a month of sundays!

I think we are accustomed to a way of feeling the need for practical and thinking that we need to have a 'practical' look with it, and it just becomes a whole 'thing' with an attached feeling. I've known people pass up the nice looking practical stuff because it doesn't look practical, yet they start by asking for stylish or fashionable. So maybe changing the look wouldn't actually be worth it business wise? Doesn't seem to take off too well -people seem to like looking like they are doing whatever the practicality is needed for

Aww pickwick I went for a size nine as I've got size eight wide feet. They fit ok, probably a bit roomy but good for extra socks in winter. They do take some pulling on though!

Just seen these Karrimor boots a Facebook group I'm on, black ones are reasonably priced. I don't have them so can't comment but reviews are good!
