How hard is it to maintain bright cherry red hair? Does it fade quickly? How often do you need to dye it?

I have naturally blonde hair, very pale colouring and green eyes. would it suit me? Is it something I can get away with doing at home or is it a definite salon jobby?

Use this as a conditioner weekly: m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=/en/Scott-Cornwall-Colour-Restore-Deep-Red-Hair-Toner-100ml_1262300/ It's powerful stuff and maintains box dye for weeks.
In fact in the 1st trimester of pregnancy when my scalp was too sensitive to dye this left on for 30 min gave a passable dye job itself!

I swear by a cheap box dye called Polytint btw.
My hair is a darker Morello Cherry shade.
Have bought pricy dyes and posher box dyes but this cheap one from Wilkos works perfectly on me.

It's very hard to upkeep. I'm blonde and went poppy red. I had to put a semi on it once a week to keep the colour vibrant. As for going back to blonde, it took a year of gradual lightening. It looks amazing when it's done but keep in mind you'll need your roots doing regularly (unless you're naturally very blonde) as the smallest amount of regrowth looks terrible. It's a commitment.

It is hard to upkeep red shades, whether red red or copper. I've been dying my hair varying shades of red and copper for around 17/18 years (started at school!),with occasions of going chocolate brown, last brown was a bad mistake!!

It does fade quickly but I found Aussie Colourmate shampoo and conditioner was great and my intense copper hair didn't fade half as quickly.

Then there's the roots issue. Roots against strongly coloured hair looks awful, really awful. Light browns or mid browns in your roots can look grey in contrast. So upkeep there is a must too. I've given up for the millionth time, over the years I've got fed up with the upkeep many times and gone back to brown, then got bored and gone back to red only to remember why I got fed up in the first place.

It's also a complete pain in the backside to dye over
