What do we think of white/cream trouser suits?

I am going to a family member's 40th birthday party and AS USUAL feel clueless about what to wear, but want to make a real effort as it'll be a really corking night out for a meal and drinky-poos....

just saw a cream trouser suit in M & S the other day, is that a fashion no-no or is that a good look?

Trouser suits are ok on me I think as I'm quite 'rounded' (I yo yo between a 14 and a 16) and tailoring seems to suit me....

whaddya think, is it naff or ok?

What do I wear with it accesorries wise???

OK on Martin Bell......

ledodgychristmasjumper · 24/11/2006 11:07

Not ok with the wrong knickers.

Fab if your arse looks like Liz Hurley's - crap if your arse is a bit ample. Are you a tallish 14-16? Then you may be able to get away with it.

I must add my arse is way too ample for white trousers - but if you are going to look fab then wear them.

JackieNo · 24/11/2006 11:12

I feel it might look a bit summery, but you might be OK.

TBH imo white trouser suits only look good if they are really expensive, made from heavy, good fabric and very well cut.
They have a tendancy to look cheap and ill-fitting otherwise.

hotmama, no I am on the vertically challenged side of things...ooooh dear it's not looking good, is it?? I was kind of assuming I would find a white suit with a longer line jacket.....never show the bum if I can avoid it.....I am not huge in that area, not pear shaped but certainly not shaped like our Ms. Hurley.

Double sigh.........

i recently tried on dinner suit (tux) in cream in Karen Millen. Looked really nice but felt more comfortable in teh black suit so bought that. However am a big fan of white/cream suit so if you feel confident in it, go for it

SoMuchToBits · 24/11/2006 11:18

Sorry sunnyside - White suit just conjured up image of Martin Bell to me

JackieNo · 24/11/2006 11:20

How about a tuxedo style one instead? V elegant.

JackieNo · 24/11/2006 11:21

ie, black, rather than white, I mean.

sunnysideup · 24/11/2006 11:23

hmm Jackie, it's a thought......just that I wear alot of darker colours and just fancied white or ivory for a change....I guess the only way to find out is to try one on!

Absolutely! i bought the waistcoat which is halter neck and low backed which makes teh suit a little less boring! intend to wear with sky scraper high silver heels to glam it up abit. Try it out

sunnysideup · 24/11/2006 11:33

I have a tailored cream suit, which I wore when I was 14/16 and I think it looked fab. I'm 5'7" so not so tall, but killer heels raise the arse cheeks so always a good idea, but TBH the jacket on mine covered my bum.

Although bf at the time thought my arse looked great in the trousers - so didn't care what anyone else thought
